I can't wait to see who is first!!! I keep having crazy Braxton Hicks so I will put my phone charger in the hospital bag just in case and it immediately stops hahaha.

Ahh this makes me so nervous... still have so much to do/feel so unprepared! But also so excited especially after seeing some of the new babies on the October thread, made me a bit teary. I can't believe it's really going to happen, still seems surreal to me. Good luck to everyone!
PS When do/did you pack a hospital bag? I don't want to do it too early and have it sitting around but also don't want to be doing it through contractions!
persimmon / 1445 posts
@Goldengirl: I packed last week and I'm due Nov 1st. I had strong contractions when I was out at dinner with a friend for over an hour and I was nervous that it was time!! I feel like it would be a waste to unpack it all since I don't really need anything in there right now. I have a separate backpack to put stuff that I do use on a daily basis with a list of what I need to throw in there (phone chargers and backup batteries, my laptop, etc).

@Goldengirl: I packed around 34-35 weeks, but only because I had fast labor in my last pregnancy. I didn't pack things I wanted to keep using, though. I had a running list on my phone if things to add in. Now that I've got my induction date (and its in two days!), the bag is fully packed and ready to go!

omg... i can't believe our thread is up! how exciting. Good luck ladies!

@Goldengirl: I've had a bag packed since 33 weeks, but I plan on going early. It doesn't hurt to get most of your stuff ready, just in case.
@PinkElephant: maybe you will be the first! Very exciting!

@goldengirl - I'll probably pack mine this weekend (due 11/2). I did create a "list" of needed in items in the event I go into labor early and that way I have a go-to for things to throw in the bag and won't miss anything. We'll probably put the car seat in the car this weekend as well.
I had my 37 week apt yesterday. Not dilated, but baby's head is REALLY low. I'm thinking I have a solid 2 weeks yet!
Nursery is almost ready, just need to get a few more things!

@LAZB: we'll see! I know a few ladies are feeling ready to go, and it's a full moon in wee hours of Oct 16th, so perhaps we will see several babies this weekend!!
pomegranate / 3904 posts
@PinkElephant: for some reason my husband and I both guessed ours is coming the 15th, although now I'm questioning it. We will see!
grapefruit / 4584 posts
@LAZB: my original guess was 10/17. Praying I'm not in labor that long!my two DDs were both4.5 hrs (one induced for PROM at 37 wks, one natural onset at 39). My MIL jokingly plead that I don't have this baby on my SIL's bday (the 16th) several months ago....we will see how much of a Sassypants LO is!

Baby O had us at the hospital last night for monitoring. Ultimately we ended up back home with strict orders to take it easy and hyrdate. I have an appointment on Friday with my doctor. i think this weekend I will be spending the weekend trying to walk this baby out.

Pretty sure I will definitely be one of the last! But that's okay, I'll cheer you all on

@Goldengirl: I will probably pack one in early Nov- probably around 37 or 38 weeks. TBH, there isn't a whole lot to pack and many items can't be packed until last minute (like toiletries). So I think the best is to make a good list, put in what you can, and put your list in the top of your bag so you can get all your last minute items in. My first was induced at 41weeks so I'm not counting on anything too early.

@Goldengirl: I'm semi-packed and am due oct 30. I'm hoping to have it all packed by Sunday which is 38 weeks. I know not to pack too much this time. Last time I went overboard!!
@PinkElephant: oh my goodness I totally forgot you were being induced this week!! Ahhhhh so exciting!! Best wishes for a safe delivery. Can't wait to see your updates!
@MrsRcCar: glad everything is ok! Not fun having to go to the hospital. Take care of yourself.
pomegranate / 3904 posts
@MrsRcCar: I'm surprised they are trying to stop anything, were you having bhs?
pomegranate / 3904 posts
I've been a little crampy occasionally, and get lots of bhs (especially at night), but no real labor signs. I'm getting my hair blown out tomorrow in case my prediction of baby coming this weekend comes true. Last time I had a blow out, it lasted 10 days!

@delight: What were the essentials that you'll be packing again this time? I feel like I don't need that much but some of the lists I've looked at seem like tons of stuff!
pomelo / 5084 posts
@dragonsword: Just creeping on your thread ... 11/19 was my due date last year. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
persimmon / 1445 posts
@Goldengirl: I WAY overpacked last time also- this time I have one airplane size suitcase and a backpack. The suitcase has 2 sets of clothes, 1 set of PJs, and a sweatshirt each for me and DH, travel size toiletries (in reusable containers if possible), and stuff for baby-a few outfits, a special blanket, nursing pads, soothies breast pads. The backpack is empty with a list on top of stuff I will use regularly- phones, chargers, laptop, makeup, a water bottle, etc. I will also bring the boppy. I brought a ton of snacks last time, but everyone who stopped by asked if they could bring food so I'm not doing that this time.

@LAZB: They would just prefer him to bake longer because of previous breathing issues with my younger guy. I am hoping we can relax or get things going because it is starting to wear on my heart and lungs.

Pretty sure I'll just be chilling over here 'til December, but excited for all you ladies that may be welcoming your lovely babies soon!
pomelo / 5326 posts
@Goldengirl: I have pjs and two nursing tanks, dark underwear in a large size, socks, flip flops, toiletries, nipple cream, sweatshirt and leggings to go home in. I'll pack my phone, iPad and book later. For baby I just have two going home outfits (girl and boy), a onesie and sleeper, two A&A swaddles, hat, mittens and diApers. Last time they just had my DD swaddled in one of their blankets the whole time and all I really needed was a going home outfit. Oh and like @caterw: said, my boppy! I was so glad I brought my nursing Pillow. I am thinking of bringing my own bed pillow too. Last time I didn't even shower or anything at the hospital, just waited until I was at home. I really didn't need much.
nectarine / 2134 posts
@Goldengirl: haven't started packing (or even a real list yet), but I will limit to my Longchamp bag. Last time I brought my yoga ball but am happy to hear my new hospital provides yoga and peanut balls so I can leave mine at home! My last hospital provided diapers, blankets, baby shirt, pacifiers, hat and nipple cream so I'll be asking on my tour what the new hospital provides -- hopefully they provide all of that again so stuff to bring for baby will be pretty minimal, probably just a going home outfit in NB and 0-3 mo size, depending on how big he is.
I will also definitely bring lotion/other small toiletries, chapstick, glasses, hair bands, water bottle, phone charger, camera... last time was a failed induction (30 hours in the hospital doing absolutely nothing) followed by an unscheduled c-section so we were there much longer than anticipated (although we lived just a few minutes away so DH could run home if I really needed anything).
kiwi / 566 posts
@caterw: @delight: @NorCalWayfarer: Thanks! I remember reading some people said to take a towel because the ones in the hospital are tiny. Are you doing that? I was thinking of pillow too but don't know how necessary it is, I can't really remember having an issue with hospital pillows before when I've been there for longer stays.
I think maybe I'll bring my laptop now that you mention about being there for awhile... I could see that happening to me and regretting not having something to watch to distract me. TV is how I relax!
I'll be formula feeding so I guess that'll be some extra stuff to pack. Not sure if they'd provide bottles, I'll have to ask. I have a feeling my hospital is super stingy and doesn't give much!
persimmon / 1445 posts
@delight: I plan to just use the boppy as my pillow when I'm sleeping! I actually use it under my back now since it's so uncomfortable to lay down. I love my bed pillows and I would be super sad if anything happened to them during L&D
Eta I should probably ask DH if he wants a pillow though. I just did a sibling class and the couches in our new hospital look pretty sad.
persimmon / 1445 posts
@Goldengirl: I brought a towel last time but didn't use it since I didn't wash my hair. I am gonna skip it this time and just use dry shampoo again.
kiwi / 566 posts
@caterw: Yah I was wondering about the washing hair thing too. Guess it depends how much I sweat/if my hair gets all sweaty! Otherwise I wouldn't want to wash hair there and deal with that.
nectarine / 2134 posts
@Goldengirl: @caterw: after an unscheduled c-section (after a previous 30 hours in the hospital), a shower was heaven
persimmon / 1445 posts
@NorCalWayfarer: OMG I'm sure!! I bet if I end up having a super long labor I will want DH to run home for a big fluffy bath sheet.
pomelo / 5326 posts
@caterw: OMG how have I forgotten to pack dry shampoo?! Thanks for the reminder!!
pomelo / 5326 posts
@caterw: oh I am just planning on leaving my boppy and pillow in the car until after I deliver! DH can go get them after!
grapefruit / 4584 posts
@delight: ack I've been debating bringing my boppy...except that I wouldn't have the option to leave it in the car. NYC parking is atrociously expensive, and I finagled my car into a spot in front of my house where I know street cleaning is cancelled for a month (so no dashing out with a newborn to move the car for an hour once a week). Anyone deliver in NYC and know if the hospitals have nursing pillows? My hospital in Hong Kong did!
@caterw: yes to dry shampoo! One of the first things I packed! I don't wash my hair daily so was worried about if I went in right before I was due to wash it! I didn't want to be greasy in newborn pics!!
I've definitely overpacked, but since a lot is uncertain about baby's size, our length of stay, etc., I didn't want to have to have DH run home. The only thing I'm not taking is the car seat because the hospital requests that you bring it only when you're being discharged.
apricot / 485 posts
@Goldengirl: I do think the towels aren't the best quality. They weren't tiny in my experience but were the smaller ones and maybe a little thin. Nothing plush for sure. But it wouldn't be worth it to me to drag my own towel in and out so I won't be packing one. I think I braided my hair last time (I was induced) so I think I will do that again. I can't sleep or lay back on a pillow with a ponytail but I can with braids. And I definitely want my hair back!
We got moved to our room after birth but it was midnight by then and I was exhausted so I didn't shower right away but I did take a looong hot shower that next morning and it was glorious!
I brought a boppy and left it in the car last time, never used it though. I actually ended up hating the damn thing. I just used pillows.
apricot / 485 posts
@Goldengirl: I'm not sure, I think I'm too tall and long-waisted for it? Like it sat way too low and my baby wasn't anywhere near my boobs. Oh, but I did eventually use it to lay baby on or let her do tummy time- but that was about it.
kiwi / 566 posts
@kes18: Ah okay... I want to use one for bottle feeding so might still work for that. Although maybe a cheap throw pillow would work just as well.
