If so, how?
She smells and tastes like rubber and I'm not sure if DS is grossed out by the taste of her!

I wiped Sophie down with hot soapy water and rinsed before use, it didn't change the smell (I didn't do a before and after taste test so I can;t comment LOL).

DH gave Sophie to our LO first while I was out of the house one day. I'm just going to tell myself that he washed it first

lol... I dont have a sophie but I do wash everything before giving it to my LO. Maybe the smell will wear off with time?

Ha. I don't think so. I also tend to catch my dog licking his mouth, so Sophie was down on my list of worries. Parent of the year.

@bree72: my dog licks my LO's hands....it makes her laugh!
Nah, I didn't wash her.

I did, but the rubber smell is actually supposed to be one the benefits of Sophie. (It says on the box the smell/taste/sight/sound are all made to stimulate LO.)

We boiled Sophie to sterilize her. <--- Hahahaha! Silly things new parents do. Not only did this kill the squeaker, but um, since then Sophie has been dragged on the ground, covered in various organic and inorganic substances, licked clean by the dog... and I think I washed her, um... 3 or 4 times over the last 8 months? I only wash her when she starts looking dingy.

Hahaha. I love the answers to this! I don't think I would have thought to wash a brand new toy like that. Oooops. I also have the dog licking problem, though.

lol I did, but then laughed at myself because the dog licks her on her face and hands and occasionally tries to steal Sophie. So that was for naught. Just a word of warning, if you do wash her, the squeaker wont squeak until she dries out. dont worry, it only takes a few hours, if that =o) And pp is right, the rubber smell and taste is great for them. I did a taste test before and after. It still tastes the same

@red_seattle: oh gosh! i wouldn't have even thought it would kill her squeaker.
I think we'll do soap and water!
