Did you envision what your baby would look like before he/she was born as far as hair, coloring, facial features and if so was it close to reality at all? I sort of picture my baby to look like my baby pictures but with dark hair and I wonder if it will be a shock if she looks completely different. I also was laughing at myself the other day when sorting through baby clothes and thinking.. "Hmm I look really bad in yellow, what if she does too?"

DS1 looks nothing like I imagined. His coloring is lighter than my DH and I. But he does look like me as a baby. DS2 looks exactly like what I had thought DS2 to look like. Similar to DH.

No, not at all... Dh has thick, black hair and DD came out somehow with a full head of blonde hair, like me. She's so fair - I thought there was no way my genes were going to win that battle!

Mine looked the opposite of what I expected, which was super shocking to me and also made me realize when I looked at her that I had such a clear picture of what she looked like in my head and she totally didn't match it. I am fair and blonde, and I expected her to be the same, but she had lots of black black hair and was very olive toned. A lot of the clothes I had for her actually DID look terrible on her, since they were pastels and she looks way better in darker colours.

No, even though I know babies usually look like their fathers I expected her to look more like me as a baby. She has dark hair like me but way less than I expected and I think it will go light. I was mildly surprised at how she looks but not as much as I would have been had she been born blond.

Yes, mostly. DH and I both have brown hair and brown eyes though, so it wasn't a surprise that she does too. The only surprises were how her hair changed over the first year (from black to light brown) and the fact that she was born with blueish eyes (they changed to brown as expected, but I thought they'd be brown to start).

Yes, he did but DH and I have similar coloring. I remember asking what color his hair was while I was being stitched up from my csection.

I imagined that she would have a full head of dark dark hair like me but instead she had light dirty blonde patchy fuzz lol i wasn't disappointed or anything though. I am still imagining LO2 with dark hair too...I guess we'll see in April!

Honestly, I am going to sound really annoying, but my daughter ended up looking more beautiful than I really could have ever imagined her. She somehow managed to get the best of both of our features, and kind of got a lot of our features but super sized - like we both have long lashes but my daughter got CRAZY lashes. We both have light eyes, but her eyes are super bright blue. We both have lighter hair, hers is extra light blonde.
Maybe every parent thinks that about their child, haha. But I am pretty amazed at how she navigated the gene pool lol. Sometimes I wonder if she left anything good in there for #2

I really thought he'd be born bald - I was bald until I was nearly 3, and then my hair came in light brown and SUPER curly, and Hubs has thin light brown hair. D was born with a full head of dark hair. He was also born with dark eyes, and I thought/hoped he'd have my light eyes. I didn't have any expectations beyond hair and eye color. Other than that, I thought he'd look like a squishy baby...and he did.

I never knew what to imagine because my kids are mixes. I thought my Asian genes would be strong but my DH, though Caucasian, also has a lot of dark features so I was expecting nothing less of dark hair and dark eyes. My only real expectation for both was a lot of hair because I was born with a full head and I couldnt imagine a bald baby because of it. They delivered on all accounts.

For some reason, I just couldn't ever picture what they would look like as babies. I thought when they got older they'd probably have blonde hair like DH and I did as kids. I hoped they'd have green eyes like me. DS looks exactly like DH. It's not that I wasn't expecting it, it just is funny that there is none of me in there! He is just a dead ringer for my husband, as a newborn and as he's gotten older! (He's 8.5 months now). DD is trickier because she doesn't look as much like any one person, although she often looks like DH's brother, but with some of my facial expressions. Her eyes are pretty green so far (at 8.5 months), though!

I think J got the best of us. He's got my big dark eyes, thick head of hair and long lashes and my husbands beautiful tan skin tone, strong brow and smile.

yes and no. I assumed LO would have darker coloring since she is mixed (I'm very fair and have dark blonde hair), but I was still kind of shocked at how dark she was! When she was born, she was also very jaundiced and she looked exactly like a little Mayan doll. Her eyes and hair were (and still are) completely black and I'd been expecting brown of some shade.
But I think she's just dark in comparison to me, because DHs family says she looks "so white" all the time, and my family think she looks totally south asian.

Yes, I think so! I'm asian and DH is white but for some reason I always pictured her to look asian. And she definitely looks more asian than white.

I had no idea what to expect because my children are multiple races. I guess I thought they would look nothing like me and completely like DH but my Caucasian genes didn't get completely masked.

I really didn't know what to expect or imagine, but I mostly wanted a clone of my husband- he has dark hair, long lashes and the most beautiful blue eyes. So I was surprised when the parts of me she got made her as pretty as she is, easily cuter than either of us as babies. She is honestly the perfect mix of the two of us, it's crazy.

@wrkbrk: it actually is a biological thing that no matter who babies end up looking like, as newborns they tend to look like their dad. It's to help fathers bond from what I've read on it.
ETA: the scientific study appears to have been disputed buttttt I still usually think newborns look like their dads sooooo BOO SCIENCE.

I don't know why, but I never expected my first to have a head full of red hair. It's a recessive gene and I never expected it because DH has darkish brown hair. He was so small he looked like a little alien baby. This guy is 2 pounds bigger and looks just like daddy!

@wrkbrk: I think the idea is that from an evolutionary stand point it's best if baby looks like dad so he will want to protect his family. I don't know if there have been any big studies done but I have at least heard that line of logic frequently.

I didn't really have expectations, but I have more dominant features than my DH, so I expected LOs with darker features. My son looks like me, but with blue eyes. I expected my daughter to look more like my son (and therefore me), but she has all light features, like her papa! She doesn't look like me at all!

I didn't know what to expect but he looked different than I ever could have imagined. Newborns are often a bit swollen and smushed so there was that. He has such a unique little face. It was a mind blowing and surreal moment and I still sometimes can't believe that that little munchkin in his first photos is my little Tbot.

When my son was born, he looked exactly like my husband when he was a baby. For a long while, he had no hair, and then it came in blonde! I was stunned, because I was born with a full head of brown hair...full. I mean FULL.
Now, when I look at photos of myself as a child, I see my son, it's really weird.

Kind of, but then it changed. DH is part Japanese and has dark eyes and really dark hair, I'm Scandanavian with naturally blonde hair and blue eyes. I thought our first daughter might mostly look like DH, with dark hair, and I held out a tiny bit of hope she'd manage to sneak some blue eyes from me. She was born with super dark hair, looking just like her daddy, with blue eyes. As time has gone on, she looks more like me, but still has a bit of her daddy's looks too, has green eyes, more fair skin, and blondish hair.
I thought DD2 would look similar to her big sis, and while she was born with the same coloring and very simar features, so far (at almost 1 yr) her coloring is a lot darker, her hair has stayed dark, her eyes still have a blue ring and are light brown in the center, and she looks more like DH, except her eyes are more round like mine, and DD1's are more almond shaped like DH's. I think both are such a cool blend of us, and I'm surprised DD1 ended up looking so much like me.

I expected a mini DH, instead I got a DS who looks a lot like me. I also thought he would be bald since the ultrasound tech didn't see any hair, nope, full head.

No, since neither one of our kids clearly resemble one or the other - they are a mix! Nobody is ever sure who they look like!

I expected a chunky (I was told 9.5lb) dark haired baby. I got a skinny (6.5lb) red headed carbon copy of DH.

I expected my guy to look like a mix of my husband and my brother - but he looks so much like me, it's crazy! He does have a lot of my husbands expressions, though!

I didn't know what to expect but he looks like a prettier more feminine version of me! Sometimes I feel bad that he doesn't look like DH at all even though he has his most prominent features (blue eyes, thick lashes, wavy hair).

I expected a boy (team green but was so sure she was a boy) that looked like Dh as a baby- fair, light blond hair and very blue eyes. She's a girl but absolutely looks like DH. Her hair is darker than I pictured (like a soft blind vs his super blond as a baby) but she's definitely his. I have brown hair and brown eyes. We still get comments at 18 months about how much she looks like him.

I didn't realize I expected anything until I looked at her and was surprised! I have very dark hair/eyes, very light skin and prominent features. E came out with her daddy's olive skin tone and light brown hair, as well as features more delicate than either of us have. She continues to surprise me more every day!

With my first, I didn't really know what to expect. I never had a clear thought of what I thought he would look like.
With my second, I pictured her looking more like her brother; same dirty blond hair and light brown eyes. I pictured her to have curly hair and have the same complexion as him. She came out a flaming red head, that I really didn't think was possible, and is so fair skinned it's insane! The only thing that was right was that she has curly hair. -
I hoped she had DH's wavy, thick black hair. She was born with black hair but it's steadily getting lighter and now matches mine. It's also fine like mine.
I think her features are a pretty fair mix of both of us, which I hoped for, although she really looks more like DH.
