Did you make changes once you had a second child, such as a nanny instead of center or becoming a SAHM?

Same center for both kids. Prob the same for LO 3.

I'm thinking of switching to a nanny for at least my first school year.
Not sure what we'll do after that, because having a nanny is significantly more than the daycare near my job, but I dont think I can handle all the drop offs/pick ups/sick days solo (DH takes public transport to work and can't help with any of that) while I'm still pumping and not sleeping through the night (I assume).

Following this post. We're considering only having 1, because of major childcare costs. Ideally, we would keep LO2 (imaginary at this point) at home with a nanny for the first 10 months - 1 year, then they would go to the same school.
I loved having my infant at home, but once she hit a year, I was so excited for her to go to school.

Nope. They'll both continue to go to T's house. But people are completely shocked I am not staying home. I'm tired of hearing it.

@blackbird: I've had several people assume I'm staying home, too! Weird.

no change--we've put LO #2 on the waiting list for our current daycare center.

Nope, still Grandmacare at my house while I WFH. It's not exactly ideal, but it'll do until Char goes to preschool.

I became a SAHM once LO2 was born. I was working part-time from home.

@Anagram: What annoys me the most is when I say no, and then they act completely flabbergasted. WHAT?! YOU DON'T WANT TO?!
hellzzzzz nooooo lol

@blackbird: When I tell people that I will go back to work after the twins they can't believe that I don't want to stay home. With 3 kiddos 3 and under erm, hell to da naw!

@blackbird: @plantains: Mine is not even about "want"--I'm torn on that subject--but we live in a super expensive area and my health insurance is so much better and cheaper than a family plan through my husband's work would be.
Even though childcare is prohibitively expensive here, it's only a year or two that I'll be paying for double child care anyway.

I work at a home daycare now so DD comes with me, but DH and I are discussing the possibility of me SAH when the next one is born. If I don't SAH I'll bring LO2 to daycare with me as well.

This is DD's last full week at her daycare center. DD2 will be born on or before next Tues and when I go back to work, both girls will start at a new home daycare. The center was just too much for two kids.

@plantains: ha, exactly! No thanks! @Anagram: We're in the same boat. One very expensive year, then the prices drop big time (over $100/week) as E turns 3. Then at 5, kindergarten is already paid for.

Ours will have to change too due to center costs. I think a nanny might actually be cheaper but we'll have to do the math when it comes time.

Our plan will be to have grandparents watch our second when the time comes and leave DD in her current daycare, we will put #2 in daycare when #1 goes to kindergarten. If his parents are unwilling or unable, then we will Prob explore having a nanny or au pair that's more cost effective then 2 in daycare.

@Anagram: I am in the same boat as I live in NYC and I don't know anyone who can afford to stay home with 3 kids. We need both salaries and sets of benefits!

My mom watched DS1 and when DS2 was born she watched both of them for about a month. Then DS1 turned 2 and we put him in daycare/preschool. So now she has DS2 all day and DS1 for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

Same daycare. I priced doing a nanny but I still wanted my toddler to do some sort of preschool.. With that combined it would still have been twice as expensive as paying for 2 in daycare. I also love our daycare so didn't want to change!

They had the same arrangement. Both had grandmacare for the first year and a half, then attended the same daycare/preschool.

I quit working while pregnant with #2. DS was not doing well at daycare. The plan was for both to go to the same daycare if I continued to work.
