I was never a fan and I remember awhile ago that seemed to be the general consensus here as well..
Now that J is 2 and has likes/dislikes and opinions of his own, I find myself wanting to buy him clothes that I know he will like and get excited about. That means shirts with minions on them, elmo and curious george. It doesn't matter to me so much whether they're "cute" - because he gets so excited about them!
I have to say, this elmo tee from ON is pretty darn cute!

Not on clothes, but toys a bit. I still hate licensed characters on clothing, but I'd buy them if she picked them out.

I really don't like character clothes. As LO gets older I will let her wear them if she really likes them. Those well definitely be daycare clothes though. They are just so... ugh.
ETA I do try to get around it by buying character dresses like the one below that I just bought her for our disney trip.

She wears PJs with characters on them (I still refuse everyday clothing) but she only wants to wear her Minnie ones...every day. I know she would love a Minnie shirt, but I just can't do it yet!

I too am not a huge fan. That being said, we do have a few sports-items or disney-items (since DH works there.) If LO started liking certain characters, I would be picky. The one you posted? SUPER cute. Some though get just outrageously tacky looking!!!! I'd just say I"m fairly picky about clothes in general though.

yep, i was anti before kids and wanted zero characters. But LO 1 got some HK stuff for her first birthday and I haven't minded since then. Her Elmo shirt makes her SO happy....

Luckily the only character LO likes isn't on any clothes or toys/books that I"ve seen! But I would like to avoid this as long as possible--I'm sure if he shows a major preference I wouldn't say no.

Haha, I was anti-character clothing before my son kind of got into it, but we only do Mickey Mouse for play tee shirts.
Sometimes, though, you have to pick your battles. If it meant getting out of the house in the morning with no fuss and my son wearing a character tee, I'd just do it.

@Mrs. Pen: i wouldn't say i was "anti-character" before but i didn't prefer it, for sure.
now that my lo loooooves mickey and jake (from jake and the neverland pirates) i actually get excited to buy him clothing with those characters. like you said, if he's happy, i'm happy!
eta: we also have several toys and books with those characters, as well!

Not there yet but I really hope M doesn't want all of her clothes to have Disney princesses on them! Of course I would say yes if she loves it, but I am not a fan.

No, I still don't like them and won't buy them. I think they're overpriced and ugly. I find other ways to give her the characters she loves - like getting the My Little Pony figurines from McDonald's when they featured them in Happy Meals!

@Mrs. High Heels: haha I think they're cheaper! The licensed tees at Target were $5 each last week, so I got him a minion tee- the excitement and joy on his face when I gave it to him was priceless!

@Mrs. Pen: I will say, I do think that Elmo tee you posted above is pretty cute! DH saw a My Little Pony tee on sale at Target a few weeks ago too and really wanted to get it... it looked like rainbows, glitter, and unicorns threw up on it. I think it was around $5 too... and I said, "No way! She's going to want to wear that tee and only that tee every day". I'd rather avoid that battle.

@Mrs. Pen: Oh, and I just came back from browsing Old Navy yesterday... and all the licensed stuff were double the price as the non-licensed tees. That's why I had it in my mind that they're more expensive.

I didn't realise being "anti-character" was a thing but I'm it, for sure! My mum just bought a jumper for E with Minnie Mouse on it and I hate it so much!!!
That said, once she's older, if it makes her happy we will just go with it! I was anti a lot of things before E came along but she has her own opinions - who knew?!!

I have to admit, it never occurred to me to dislike character stuff! I waste a lot of money on Star Wars merchandise (I have TWO Darth Vader spatulas in my kitchen), so it'd be pretty hypocritical of me to not let my kids wear what they like. That being said, if they're super expensive they'll get vetoed. I do most of my own clothing shopping at goodwill/thrift stores, and will do the same as much as I can for LO.

Anyone else strangely picky about them? I find I like ones that are simpler, without a ton going on or big colorful wording all over it. (Then again I dislike a lot of the shirts covered with wording... maybe THAT is what I'm against?)
I like the first Minnie here, but not the second. Then again, I'd only buy it for her for a reason (we have a minnie onesie for when we go to WDW) or if she really liked a certain character.

@kjpugs: Yes! I totally agree. I love the elmo shirt I posted, but I don't like this one below. And I agree about the minnie shirts, I do like that first one! Not a fan of wording as much either.

I do not buy them myself, but we get a lot of Hello Kitty dresses as gifts and I don't mind. It's just clothes, not super picky. And people always say she looks cute in HK.

I agree, I like the minimal business and no wording. L has a batman and superman tee with just the logo. Seriously considered pulling the trigger on that elmo shirt - it is too cute.

I still don't buy any. It probably helps that we don't have a TV, so my son isn't exposed to it in the first place. The only characters he really knows are Thomas and friends, and that's through books.

Yes there's something about A's face lighting up when she sees a Hello Kitty or similar t-shirt. I very much dislike Dora though so I'm glad she doesn't know who that is yet.
