@mediagirl: @Mrsjets: @Mrs. Pen: YES! So glad to know I'm not alone.
I think it's almost like, if I was going to a big event themed such that that character was appropriate, would I wear that shirt?! The simpler ones, yes. Many of them... NOPE.
Disney kills me though because I get DH's cast member discount. I like to buy stuff for family too... never thought they may not like it, so I'll have to ask more!

I'm not a fan.
I will buy licensed underwear though if it means he will get excited about wearing them! I'd also consider pajamas since changing into pajamas can be a struggle.

I'm not a fan but some family members have bought her stuff (one being MIL after I specifically told her I didn't like characters) - and she hasn't worn them. But if she ever wants to pick something out on her own, and I have a feeling Elmo will be a favorite, then I will let her get a few items.

Not for us. My kid doesn't know any characters yet, and the daycare I'm pretty sure we are going with doesn't allow them, so hopefully I can put it off for awhile longer!

I'm pretty indifferent because she's not into anything right now. When she shows an interest in something (have no idea when that'll happen), I have no problem indulging it so she feels like she has some choice in what she wears.
If it's not Elmo, it's going to be mermaids or bunnies or something. I just don't care

I don't buy them only because I don't want there to be clothes battles where they want to wear their character clothes. I don't mind them though!

I'm a big fan of Hello Kitty and have been known to wear Hello Kitty around the house! Haha. So yes I totally buy Hello Kitty for my LO and she loves it!

@Torchwood: Totally off topic but I have a Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper spatula.

I'm anti character except for Hello Kitty and Minnie Mouse...but even then I don't like any wording. LO isn't old enough to ask for any character tees though.

I've never been anti-character anything. My only criteria is that it should be cute! There is a big difference between an ugly my little pony shirt and a cute one. There are actually very few battles in my house around character clothes so it's never been an issue.

I don't like them but it hasn't been much of an issue yet. At almost 3 he only knows a few characters so until the day he asks for it specifically it is not on my shopping list.

I have no problem with them at all I've always loved them even when I was younger so I wouldn't have a problem buying LO any matter of fact I just brought a few for myself a couple of weeks ago. I even buy both of my nieces character clothing all the time
Here's my lion king shirt that I love it was my fav growing up and I even used it as my baby shower and LO nursery theme

@Cherrybee: I just choked on my Oreo hahahaha. I wish!! He's a chef. They call all non-corporate employees cast members

While I can understand wanting to avoid any battles over clothes (i.e. wanting to wear a character shirt over and over again) I guess I don't see what why else there would be an issue. Maybe I'm missing something?

Like you, I thought I wouldn't buy them but I have bought some here and there. I look for ones with a tasteful design.

@MUI831: I think to most people it's aesthetic - they just don't like the look... I guess that was mostly it for me? While I can still pick out his clothes I suppose I liked a certain look. But now that he can get excited about them - I want to choose things he likes.

I don't mind them. D gets excited about his clothes and he's happy to be sporting the "cool" characters. I let him pick out quite a lot of onesies for M too.

She has some Minnie underwear that she loves
I got through those years with 1 pair of Bob The Builder pj's and a t-shirt for my son. I have a feeling my Minnie loving daughter might get a tasteful t-shirt (like the first one posted on the first page) and a pair of Minnie pj's too. Otherwise I don't buy licensed clothing, and I totally agree that some are cute and some are TACKY!!

I'm not totally against it but just want it to look cute...but also, price matters. We are going to Sesame Street Live so I wanted to get her a character shirt but didn't want to pay more than $10. All the Sesame Street shirts at Old Navy were not cute but they were $3 so LO will be wearing an ugly Elmo shirt
She has Hello Kitty and My Little Pony underwear bc it was cheap at Costco...she loves them
