In elementary school, I pretty much dressed like a hobo because my family didn't have much money. The kids would tease me for having shoes from Payless!
Then as my parents made more money, they did buy me much nicer clothes once I started jr. high. I must admit I can't wait to go shopping with Olive!

I loved payless! My parents would have bought me nicer clothes, but ive always been quantity over quality. Plus id find name brands at Ross. I was just never into name brands though.

No...I was a tomboy hobo (LOL, hobo...) until 10th grade and then the "fanciest" clothes I owned was Gap. Even when I was older I didn't have many brand name clothes. I love that I can buy LO nice things.

They didn't.. we got lots of hand me downs. I don't remember caring about what I wore though..

I almost never had any name brand clothes and still don't. I have nice clothes for church/weddings/professional settings, but in general I am happy with beater clothes.

@Mrs. Bee: I was the same as you! Hobo clothes during elementary school, and then sometime around middle school my dad started making a lot more money, and we had nice new expensive clothes from name-brand mall stores.

H*** NO. I was lucky to get my ONE outfit from Dollar General after years of begging. Shoes came from Wal-Mart (Payless cost too much.) When I finally got chestier than my hand-me-down donor, I started shopping at Wal-Mart, and I was lucky for that. Meanwhile, my brother wore brand new Nikes, Adidas, Reebok, etc. I got teased for a short amount of time, but after kindergarten, only a pastor's daughter, a Mennonite girl, and a boy from church would speak to me at all.

I wasn't really into clothing but my Mom was really good about finding great deals on nice clothes. I was never in the trendiest stuff like Guess but I always looked nice and clean and proper. My husband has always been into brands and he would dress our lo in head to toe Ralph Lauren if he could.

Yeah definitely not.
I worked at an elementary school 2 years ago and the parents of one of the fifth graders I worked with were buying him $80-$100 jeans! Whaaatt!!

Aww, my parents didn't have much money and we shopped at payless and Kmart. The only brand name stuff was anything she bought at Marshall's or Ross.

my mom believed in nice, quality clothes and shoes but she was a bargain hunter.
she would never buy us cheap clothes or allow us to buy shoes from payless, but she would shop all the sale racks at stores like macys. I never got anything that was not on sale!
