Mine both did. It took mom 6 years because she had to work her way through (and lived at home while doing so).

Yep, both did undergrad and masters degrees. They did their masters when we were all young though.

Nope. My dad did not finish high school. My mom started and finished her four year degree during night school while she raised us kids! She rocked it!

Both my parents went to university. Neither of them ended up really using their university educations though.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
Nope! Not entirely sure they finished high school.
pomelo / 5524 posts
Neither did. My dad went into the Navy and mom went to cosmetology school. I was the first woman in my family to graduate from college while my older brother was the first male!

Nope. Kinda sad because my mom was her high school's valedictorian, but a teenage pregnancy has a way of derailing plans! My mom started college when I was a sophomore in college. She stopped and has taken classes off and on but hasn't gotten her degree. My dad didn't go to college.

My dad didn't finish but my mom has a BA & MBA.

My mom went to community college. My dad graduated high school 2 years early and tried to go straight to university (he's super smart), but he wasn't mature enough to handle it. He came home and then went back to college a few years later.

My Dad did and actually graduated early (engineering degree) despite being in a frat and partying all the time. He met my mom at one of their parties, she attended a 2 year junior college nearby.

Yeah, my parents both have phds. My dad was the first in his family though to go to college: his dad had to drop out of high school during the Great Depression to support his family after my great-grandfather passed away. He always really valued education though and was so proud of my dad!

@mediagirl: Yep! Both of my parents have advanced degrees as well. Both of my parents have MBAs.

Both my parents did and both have their B.A.
Both my in-laws did and FIL has his Ph.D and MIL has her J.D.

Neither one did. My mom finally did her degree after we left the house and we're very proud of her.
I was the first person in my family to go to college and the first to go to grad school and the first MD as far back as we can trace.

my mom graduated nursing school, then she went back to school in the past couple years. this spring she graduated summa cum laude, i am insanely proud of her! my dad went to a very good school where is father was a prof, but left before graduating to tour with a band as the AV/sound guy & then worked in retail management for an AV/speaker company until they closed their retail stores, since my brother & i were both on our own at that point he could afford to go back to school & get a degree to teach and make less than half of what he did without a degree, lol, but he loves it and the kids are so lucky to have him! i'm very proud of both of them for graduating, even though they didn't do it on a conventional timeline!

My dad went to college both in Korea and here in America after they immigrated, right after they got married. Then he got a Masters, taking night classes while working while us kids were tiny babies!
My mom went to a nursing school in Korea, but got married and moved here, and since the degree doesn't come over and she didn't know much english, just worked in the healthcare field since then. Hospital, pharmaceuticals, and eventually dental practice management.

Dad- yes, for maybe 5-6 years. He has a PHD.
Mum- nope, she left school at 16.

My dad graduated with a 4 year degree in business administration, and my mom went to college for 2 years before deciding to go to cosmetology school. Both of DH's parents did the same undergrad program--chemical engineering. His dad got his MBA, and his mom started hers but never finished.

Not initially, but my dad just got an associate's degree a couple years ago -- I'm so proud of him to have gone back to school after age 50!
coconut / 8854 posts
Nope. My dad dropped out of high school during his Sophomore year, but my mom did graduate high school.
Neither of them had any interest in college.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
They both have their Associate's degree. But my mom went after she had kids and took one class at a time (sometimes just one class each year) so it took her FOREVER to complete her degree. She actually graduated the same day I did from college!

They went to community college. My dad went off to the Air Force and my mom became a nurse.

Yep. They went to college in Korea.
Dad came to America when he was 30, went to a jr college, did his pre-med requirements at a top university in CA , and did med school a few years later
Mom did acupuncture school in her 50s and practices in LA now.
My parents are my heroes!
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
Yup, both did. My dad went to Tufts at first but wasn't focused enough. He ended up joining the Airforce and they sent him to IU to get a BA in Russian and then flew him through Russian air space to pick up conversation and translate them. Then he went back to IU as a teaching assistant and met my mom while she was attending (they are 9 years apart in age).
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Yes, they were the first in their families to attend. They met at college.
coconut / 8472 posts
Yup, both parents went to college. My mom even got her Master's by the time I was 5, AND managed to have my brother and work at the same time. NO idea how she did it!

My dad & step-mom graduated together when I was a sophomore in high school, my mom graduated the summer after I got my BS. She's currently getting her master's and nannying for my kid

Mom dropped out of HS, later got her GED, and then went to nursing school. My dad went to college in his early 30s after I was born and has been very successful despite not having an MBA (he's executive level and it's rare for them not to have an advanced degree).

Neither of my parents went to college. Actually my dad can hardly read or write. They run their own business though and do pretty well for themselves regardless.
coconut / 8279 posts
Both. My dad didn't finish though, he moved to marry my mom and support her while she finished school.
honeydew / 7667 posts
My Dad got a BSE that he used and my mom got a masters, which she also used.
watermelon / 14467 posts
They both attended but have not graduated. My mom went to university for a year before dropping out, and my dad dropped out of high school and got his GED. Both attended seminary and have enough credits to be juniors, but the rising cost of classes forced them to drop out.
If I win the lottery or have the extra cash, I'd love to send them back to school because I know they want to finish. But they are working in the field they want (church planting).
