A post last week got me thinking about parent child interaction. A childhood anthropologist, David Lancy, thinks that parent-child play is a modern invention. This idea struck me as extremely odd. I spent hours and hours writing my thesis during which I watched as a distraction hours and hours of baby animals playing on youtube. Often they were playing with other babies but also adults animals. Also when we fostered puppies, they played most with each other but mom would join in the fun too.

I remember wrestling and building lego buildings and tea parties with my parents. The kids played among themselves a lot but parents werent completely excluded.
