Not really, no. I had the option of helping my parents with whatever they were doing - gardening, cooking etc - or playing alone. I generally spent a lot of time avoiding them for fear of being roped into said additional chores.....! Whenever I complained about being bored, my mum would say "read a book".

When I'm with E, I play with her constantly and feel guilty if I need to break away to do something.

I have zero memories of my Mom playing with me. I know I spent a lot of time alone in my own little world.

I don't even remember zoo trips, we never went on big vacations, when we rented a cottage some summers I was left to do my own thing. One memory with her is Canada Day at the same annual spot we'd go to, but that's about it. I have always said my Mom parented me out of necessity, not because she wanted to, and while independent time is great, I want to have fun with my kids too along the way.

My parents never played with me, but my dad played with my sister and brothers all the time. They played different sports and I was not into it...but we went to the park every weekend and played basketball, soccer, softball, or even kickball. My cousins and aunts would usually come too. My mom was all about taking us to the movies, the zoo, playing board games and was always the first to volunteer at school. I hope to have that much time/energy since it's the main reason being SAHM was important to me

I don't remember them playing with me much. Not like we play with J.

I remember coloring with my grandparents. I remember my dad built us a sandbox and a tree house/fort and every now and then he'd toss a baseball with us.

Never ever ever. Then again I never got read to, never had my teeth brushed, never was taught to read or helped with homework, never (fill in the blank). I ran around a lot outside!

No! I was the fourth child though so my sisters played with me.

We never really went anywhere "fun" either. I think I went to the zoo once for a field trip!

Not often. I was an only child and was really lonely so I wish they did!

I don't really remember my mom playing with me much. I do remember my dad playing with me, but I didn't see him often, so that's probably why.

My husband is much more fun for Liam to play with than I am. I am naturally really mellow and prefer to sit back and watch Liam play or to read together. I probably get that from my mom!

I do. I'm the oldest of five, so I have more memories of day-to-day playing with siblings. That said, my parents were really good about cooking up outings and activities for us. I have great memories of my dad teaching us to skip rocks and climb trees, and of my mom taking us on picnics and to the zoo.

@.twist.: My Mom had me as a teenager, and was for most of my childhood a single Mom, so on top of being unplanned, she was on her own, I get it was probably hard, but yah....no engagement toward me pretty much ever! It's funny because she's SO clingy to me now, god love her, but sometimes I am like "ugh, you raised me to be independent, now let me!!"

I went to disneyland with daycare when I was younger, I think they felt bad for me, and knew I'd never go otherwise, and I didn't/haven't!

Not that I remember. We did do weekend activities together like going to a museum or something, but day to day I remember mostly keeping myself busy.

I was a very independent child, so I don't know if that affected things? (I liked to sit by myself and play so no one would judge me for talking in different voices. I was also the third child, so sometimes left out)

I remember it being special when our parents played with us though. Once or twice our mom played in the snow with us and it made a great memory. A few times my dad dress up in a vest and tie (no shirt) and carried a walking stick and joined us for tea parties.

They didn't play with us everyday or anything, but when they did, they made it really special. And vacations were always super special and filled with museums and cultural things as a family

Hmm, I was going to say no but my mom always did tons of art projects with us and took us to lots of kid oriented places like children's museums, parks and local tourist type destinations. My dad would play catch, rough house, build forts and build with legos/tinker toys/lincoln logs-- but it was more of a special type of thing in not daily or even weekly. We were expected to entertain ourselves a lot and were sent to play outside frequently.

Not really. My sister and entertained ourselves - we read, colored, played outside. My mom traveled a lot for work, so my dad was often single-parenting so he was busy making meals and packing lunches and all that good stuff.

I'm kind of conscious about this with D. Fostering independence is important to me. We check in with him often so that he knows we're right there, but we let him just sit and "read" to himself or play with his toys on his own. I think he gets a pretty healthy mix of independent play time and playing with one or both of us.

Not really, but not in a bad way. My parents were great parents and my mom was an elementary school teacher. I remember mostly playing outside with friends or doing more artsy-type activities by myself...sometimes playing with my sister (3 years younger). I think we probably played board games or cars together, but I think my mom's role was more of making sure we had activities and then letting us go.

Thinking back actually made me feel a lot less anxious about LO being an only child. I was very happy as a child and felt like I was "parented" very well even without us "playing" together frequently. As long as he has friends around, he'll be fine.

My mom stayed home with us until we were school-age, but I don't remember her playing with us a lot...I'm sure she did from time to time, but I don't remember it. There were 3 of us and I mainly remember us playing together.

My dad played with us a lot though! He used to make up a lot of silly games, which we loooooved and my mom just thought riled us up. Hahaha.

Yes. We would play with my stuffed animals, color together, play cards or board games, and imaginative dress up stuff too. They weren't very good at playing Barbies though.

No, but I don't remember much prior to age 3 or so. I know my mom spent a lot of time ferrying me around to dance classes and music lessons when I was a little older. And I distinctly remember that she took me on nature walks, etc., particularly when we went on vacations. My dad took me fishing.

yep, they played with us and took us on road trips despite their busy schedules.
