Ours went up by $100/month! That's a lot!
Did your rent increase when you renewed your lease?

@Mrs. Bee: That is a lot! In our previous apartment our rent did not go up. Our current apartment is rent stabilized, but we pay under-market value for it so it could technically go up by a little over $200 when we renew, but it most likely won't.

When we lived in an apt. ours did. $100 like you. We expected it though because of the way they "promised" us it would never happen... it seemed sketchy. Oh well, we were able to break our lease soon after in exchange for a mortgage and a house... for the same effing price as our rent but 4 times the space!

That is ALOT!!! Ours went up last year 20 bucks, we expected the same increase this year had we renewed.

When werented here in Nashville our rent stayed stable over a couple of years. When my bro lived in Stuy Town his rent went up SO much every year. It was insane. After a few years they gave up and bought in Jersey.
My aunt lives in midtown and is rent controlled. AND she's lived in the same apartment for 50 years. It's insane how cheap her rent is. New tenants in her building pay like five times as much as her.

@mrsjazz: well we are going to move as soon as charlie gets into a pre-k program in the next couple of months (hopefully he gets in!). our current place is so awesome location wise, but we need to move more south in the slope to be in the good school district.

We've been month-to-month for a few years now and our landlord has never raised the rent. She's sooooo nice.

The rent was going to go up $300 if we went month to month but stay the same if we signed a 6 or 12 month lease.

Ours didn't go up last year when we renewed, and they quoted us $10/month more this year for renewal, but we are cutting our lease from 12 month to 9 month (when we move) so it is actually going up $30/month total

Not at our current place, which is one reason that we've stayed for 3 years!

Our landlord tried to raise it $300 last week. We split the different and settled on $150. =/

If we went month to month it was going up 50 bucks, but we signed a six month so it stayed the same.

Mine has typically gone up, but I think only around $25. We haven't yet renewed our lease for where we live now, but I guess we'll find out soon!

That's why we left our first apartment. It was a tiny kitchen- pretty much non existent- and she wanted to charge us $100 more!
We left and found somewhere else the same price. Then lost that place... So far our rent hasn't gone up.

In NYC, over the course of 3 years, our rent went up around $300. Steep increase for an apt that didn't get bigger or newer! We loved our place though and were very happy there.
