Do you take care of all property management stuff yourself (ex: selecting tenant, collecting rents) or do you use a management company?
And if you do it on your own- how do you typically find renters/lessees? Craigslist?

We used a realtor to find our tenant. We (well, my husband) does all the upkeep, etc. We have a separate bank account for the rent, security deposit, etc. We just have one place, a 1BR condo.

We rent out a condo and found a renter thru word of mouth. We met with her and agreed to let her rent then we moved 4 hours north.
She mails her rent check to us and we still have friends in the condo so if something is broke we ask them to take a look and we usually pay them $$ for helping out!

We listed it on Streeteasy instead of using a broker. I think in the future we might go with a broker, as this was pretty time-consuming, but it worked out well for a 2 year lease. We manage the property, but there is an onsite handyman, etc. for issues.

We do it all ourselves, and we list it on Craigslist. We've been extremely fortunate to have two long term renters

Our current tenant is a colleague of my husbands; in the future and with all other properties we will buy we will be using a management company. My goal as a landlord is to be invisible; just deposit my $$ into my account each month and they handle the rest!

When we started some years ago, we did it all ourselves, but 1 of our tenants hasnt always been on time paying, so we decided to do property mgmt for that; for our other place, we do the managing. Though in the future i'm thinking of letting property management do our 2nd property too. We used craigslist to find our tenants. In the future, we'll use property management to get the tenants.

When we had our property, we used a management company. Granted, I lived in another state.

We listed it on Craigslist and we handle everything ourselves. Luckily DH has only had to go over like 3 times for minor fixes. They mail the rent check to us.

We listed ours on domu.com. I think that might be a Chicago only website. But so far so good. We haven't had much maintenance needed but we've done it ourselves. This has been the first year we've rented our place out so not sure what we'll do going forward.

My FIL who owns 6 buildings... like 20 apartments, does it all himself. He's "retired" so this is his only job. He usually puts an ad in the newspaper.
We have one apartment and it was rented for around 2 years and we did everything ourselves. We currently don't rent it, but when we move out of this house and it becomes 2 apartments we will again do everything ourselves.
