Lala does some really weird stuff. Right now she's doing a stuttering thing. I think she picked it up from one of the kids in her class and she's copying it. Sometimes she'll speak in an accent (one of her teachers has this accent). Last week she picked up the speaking style of a friend that she loves and would even note she was speaking like (friend).

It kind of drives me mad. It's cute, but she's doing it intentionally... She'll especially pull out the baby talk or the stutter for people she doesn't know and then will finish off with "I'm a baby!" or "I'm (friend from school)!"

I try not to let any frustration show with it!

@chopsuey119: When she says she's talking like {X}, I tend to believe her... though sometimes she'll do it without endorsing a friend's speaking style. But the fact that she recognizes and endorses that the stutter is from said friend in her class makes me think that she generally knows what she's doing.

90% of the time she just speaks like herself. Since we've been on vacation, it's been more like 50%. Maybe she misses her friends a lot?

I do think that when she gets WAY overexcited it could potentially be a little bit real. Occasionally I'll ask her, "Are you talking like {X}?" and she'll usually say yes.

@chopsuey119: Sadly I think she does. Not in a mean way though... more of an "I get you" way.

When I've told her teacher some of the things she comes home and reports blow by blow, teacher is pretty surprised! I could walk you through some pretty intense two year old drama. Usually ends in, "And I told her that makes me sad. But we talked about it and then I was happy."

@Mrs. Jacks: ahh! DS started speaking with a southern accent out of no where! Glad he isn't the only one.

DS was a late talker (early walker) and he still sometimes stutters a little bit at 3. More like, he begins a sentence and he can't think of the right word he wants to use so it takes more time.

@Honeybee: that's a good thought and if I think about it that was, it makes it less frustrating

I've seen a bunch of kids with stutters in speech therapy - most of the time they just think/speak too fast for their mouths to catch up with them!
I think its hilarious when kids adopt accents/voices though. My best friend's little girl has picked up on a tv character's Australian accent, and totally mimics it all the time (she's almost 3).

@Honeybee: New thing today. Now she's narrating her life like a story. So she'll say, "the girl was hungry for dinner. I want to eat, she cried!"

Ah, now you are passive aggressively telling me you are hungry. I guess this one is actually pretty cute

@Honeybee: this very moment she's "reading" Frog and Toad to me at the dinner table from memory. Ah, the fun never ends!
