They broke it at 7cm for the first, and it broke on its own for my second.

When I was 1.5 cm dilated my midwife said my bag of waters was buldging and would probably break soon. Over 20 hours and 8 cm later, she finally broke it herself!

It was my first sign of labor, leaking when I woke up to pee at 2:30am. I continued to have small-to-medium gushes with each contraction throughout labor.

@birdofafeather: this gives me hope. I always say I want mine to break again whenever I get pregnant again. This way we don't have to question if I am in labor or not.

@Smurfette: yep! I was more worried about it the second time! I had some false labor the second time around and it was confusing! So when my water broke 4 days later after nothing, I was like, yup, I know what to do now!

Yep! With both of my boys, it broke right before I reached 10cm. With DS2, the midwife should have had goggles...

Yes. My water broke on its own while I was in bed. It was barely a trickle. No contractions. I cleaned up, showered, then proceeded to email my work when all the sudden it was a gush like in the movies! I showered again and it just kept gushing after that. I started to have contractions on the way to the hospital (I went in because of meconium). I ended up being induced.
