I'm curious to know about your water breaking. I have this fear it's going to be a big gushing mess and ruin our couch or mattress, or even worse happen at work!
ETA I enabled multiple votes if you've had multiple LOs!

Mine was very considerate and broke while I was in the bathtub. After that it was just a trickle. Her head was blocking and it was just a small tear in the amniotic sac.

I voted 'Yes and it was a huge gush', but my water broke while I was pushing (about 10 minutes into pushing) and it was a MASSIVE gush. I had no idea it could break so late in L&D.

It was a gush, but I'd been in labor almost 20 by then and was checked in at the hospital. So no mess for me to worry about. But there was no mistaking the feeling.

Yes but not till I was pushing. I think it was inbtw a trickle and a gush!

My water broke when I was sleeping on one of my parents guest bedroom mattresses. Luckily they had some kind of mattress pad underneath so it didn't ruin the mattress! but it was a huge gush!

Yes. It was a gush but luckily I was trying to pee so that was better than if it had broken 10 minutes earlier in the car.

Yes, big gush in a Mexican restaurant. I didn't even care I was having contractions pretty regularly for 2 days, so I was just relieved that it was the real deal and my baby was coming

I was 9 days late and they TRIED very hard to break my water. They barely did anything to it. I remember being stunned that it just didn't pop with ease. Still wondering what happened to it now that I look back... I had a smidge of leaking but no big gush. I ended up having a C section so maybe they eventually just popped it while in there?

I worried about this too! I was so scared it was going to happen in the supermarket! I ended up having to get them broken at 10cm just before I started pushing!

Nope. I was at a 10 and started pushing and my water still wasn't broken.

It was a trickle then a hush when I shifted. It broke when I went to bed. I had just started sleeping on towels a few days prior. Such a weird feeling. It kept on like that for at least an hour. Blech.

For both of my kids I had a huge gush when they broke. With my first it was in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. The popping sound woke me up. Thankfully I had a waterproof mattress. With my second it was while I was in L&D and after it broke my son was born about 20 minutes later.

At first it was a trickle...I thought maybe I had peed because it was a small amount, but it felt different so I had a feeling it was my water breaking.
Once I got to the hospital and was sitting it would gush out small amounts every time I had a contraction. They did have to finish breaking it though later on

Sort of?mine broke on its own... But only after I'd started to be induced with cervidil. It was more than a trickle but less than a gush. Felt like I was constantly peeing myself. So gross lol

Yes but it happened when I was like 7cm in the hospital.

Both of my labors were very different, I need multiple votes
My first started with water breaking with a pop and steady stream- but it didn't splash everywhere, it just kept soaking my pants every time I stood up. About an hour later the contractions started and were extremely painful.
With my second, it never broke. I kept expecting it so I would know for sure I was in labor, but they broke it for me about 20 minutes before I delivered.

My water broke in bed while I was sleeping. It was just a slow trickle. I had no idea until I woke up.

Yes, but I was already 8cm dialated and just had the epi placed. I thought I had lost control of my bodily functions b/c of the epi (ha!) but they said it was my water breaking. I had forgotten that it hadn't broke already!

Other- It was a gush but it came out AFTER the baby. She was so engaged when it broke that it was all trapped behind her.

A good size gush right after I stood up from the couch (thank god). It continued to leak after the main whoosh.

Mine gushed but it kept coming over a few contractions so it wasn't a ton at once, but a lot more than a trickle. I was wearing a pad because I'd started bleeding the night before and it overflowed in my pants and down my legs but not on the bed. I was on all fours on the bed when it happened.

Huge gush but I was already pushing so it didn't matter where I was. I to actually felt very relieving to have it break.
pomegranate / 3275 posts
First LO I had it broken for me. Second LO, it broke at home with no contractions, it was just a bit. Third LO, it was broken during c-section (but apparently it was a lot and sucked the baby back in and soaked everyone's shoes... Eew!!)

It was a huge gush but I was already in the hospital and I was on the toilet when it happened!

Yep! Glad I just got up off the couch. Huge gush all over the floors.

Mine broke during active labor, when I was about 7cm dialated I think. It was a big gush and things got a lot more intense after it broke!

I just got out of bed after taking a nap when it broke. Came in big gushes. I was so grossed out by it at first but once I got to the hospital & into a gown I didn't care anymore!

Mine was a pulsing gush, but it was broken in the hospital when I was at 9cm.

Yes! while I was freaking out cleaning my car (had to be clean before the baby arrived!) at a do-it-yourself carwash type place. It was a slow trickle, so I ignored it for like seven hours before I called the doctor! opps. I was in denial, since I was only 38 weeks along.

The broke my water for both of my boys. With N I had already had my epidural so I didn't feel much. They broke my water with E before I got my epidural. I think next time I will have my epidural first.....

It trickled slowly, then once I got to the hospital they wanted a urine sample. When I went to sit on the toilet it gushed.. so good timing!

OB broke it to kick start labor. All of the sudden lots of warmth was running down my legs. And I mean LOTS
