LO 1 wants an Olaf ice cream party for her 3rd birthday....I will ask again next month because I'm sure her preferences will change!
She had a family only first and a play gym party for her second.
I want to do her 3rd at a play gym but DH likes parties at our house.

@autumnlove: I have been thinking about this lately. Not sure what to do.
Last year I rented the play gym and no one could make it because there was a snow storm coming. I definitely don't want that to happen this year. But J is reeeally into birthdays, birthday cakes and candles. And his best friend has his right before J's.... what to do?
I was thinking I might invite his really close friends to LegoLand and if a storm comes up, well, we'll have to reschedule.
Not sure though...

No party, we were away. And I am so terrible that I didn't even organize anything for his daycare class...oh well. This year, I vow to do something!

Yup! She didn't have a second so I definitely want to throw her a third and invite daycare friends. I'm thinking of a carousel theme at a old school carousel! We'll see how much rental is....

We're definitely doing a 3rd. She didn't get a 2nd birthday party, since we were in the middle of moving. Plus, this will be the first birthday that we'll be near family for and they'll be able to celebrate with us.

@sorrycharlie: Hahaha, I think it would be fun...cut out paper snowflakes and hang from ceiling? Will people eat ice cream in late Dec/early Jan?

Yup, it was a lot of fun. We invited siblings for neighborhood kids bc often they'll all play together anyways and that worked out well to have a mix of ages. I took a gamble and had it at a local park where there's no reservations but we had it in the morning so no one was using them yet. I had a mix of outdoor toys for free play and organized games and one arts and craft activity. We planned for 2 hrs and the kids all we're playing well so it prob lasted about 3 hrs.

ETA for my DD she had a bounce house party and her friends had a lot of fun but she just watched them

We had one at his preschool. He kept changing his mind about a theme until about the month before when he became adamant about his idea. We went with it!

Lo's 3rd polar bear party was at a gymnastics gym. We included 2-3 year old girl friends only so it was nice to have similar aged kids. I made this crazy Pinterest blue jello igloo which came out kind of strange looking but everything else went well! I made a winter theme menu that I could send u if u want. Polar Punch etc.

@autumnlove: you can def pull off ice cream year-round in SoCal! But if you have a change of heart, I made those "cupcakes in ice cream cones" for DD's Frozen party last Feb. You know the ones where you pipe the frosting to look like ice cream
To answer the original post, both girls had 3rd bday parties. We're kinda on an every-other-year-is-a-big-bday-party schedule... My first DD had a "Toy Story 3" party in the party room of our old apt building, and DD2 just had a "carnival/circus & teddy bears" party at Build-a-Bear Workshop. After every big party though, I tell myself "no more" (so much work and $$ for such young ages), but then have been caving in...
I think for #3 though, we might skip his 3rd and go big at 4yo. At our last party, DD was cranky and slept through the 2nd half of it even if it wasn't around her naptime, so I feel like she missed out on most of it.

My son will turn 4 this year and we've never done a party other than just us and our inlaws. His birthday is also right at the end of the year, so it's a hectic time for many.

My oldest has had 3 birthday parties - two of which were at our house in the states (1 and 2); but for his 4th birthday I decided to do it at a bowling alley. It was a hit and I highly recommend even if bowling alley's aren't always the nicest. They provided everything (plates, pizza, and drinks) and all I had to do was bring the decorations and cake. Simplest party I've planned to date. And all the kids had such a blast and they provided rails for all the kiddies. My youngest only had a 1st at home. I don't know if I will plan one for him next year. Maybe when he starts preschool and has more friends. But both kids will have celebrations with family no matter what. I think we'll throw a 6th birthday party for him since it'll be his last year at Montessori before going to traditional grade school. Plus, by then we'll be ready to purge some younger toys to accommodate new toys. We still have unopened presents from his 4th b/c we just have too much toys and so little space after moving.

We had big parties for his 1st and 2nd birthdays, so we are going to keep in low key for his 3rd. I'm hoping the new park near our house is finished by then because they're putting in a fire truck play structure and since he loves fire fighters and trucks, I think it would be fun to have family over for cake and to go play at the park. I have a hard time not planning a big party, though. I just love it!

@autumnlove: with toddlers, yes! one good thing about ice cream in cold weather though is it doesn't melt as fast!
