So I am 35 weeks along with my second and today my OB checked me because I recently had pink spotting and cramps. I am already 1 cm and 50% effaced and she warned me to take it easy or I will go into labor early. But it is impossible to take it easy with a 2 year old, especially one that wants to be picked up all the time.
Did any bees dilate as early (first or subsequent pregnancies) and manage to go to 39-40 weeks?
Or am I screwed because second labor always is faster?

I was 3cm, 90% at 36 weeks.
Had my son at 39w3days!

I haven't been there yet but I had two good friends give birth recently, both the day before their respective due dates. One was dialated to a 3 for 8 weeks and the other was not dialated at all the morning of the day she went into labor. So basically I learned that I should likely ignore that clue!

It basically means nothing! I was 1cm at 36 weeks, 2 at 38 weeks, 3 at 39 weeks, 4 at 40 weeks. I was induced at 40 weeks 1 day at 4cm dilated, 80% effaced. My doc kept saying, "Don't plan anything big, you'll go anytime!" ... she was wrong.

I had my first at 37 weeks and went from closed and not effaced to labour really quickly, and with my second I was 1-2 cm and about 50% for about 7 weeks before I went into labour! I ended up having #2 at 39 weeks after worrying about early labour for so long!

I spotted from weeks 35-40 and was 3cm dilated by 38 weeks. I went into labour on my due date. My OB never told me to take it easy either even though I was dilating and spotting.

My midwife doesn't do cervical checks early for exactly that reason. She said I could be 3cm at 36 and it means nothing.

I was 1cm and 50% effaced at 36 and 37 weeks and 2 at 38 and 2 1/2 and 75% effaced the day before I went into labor which was 40 weeks exactly and he was born on his due date and this was my first.

I was 2cm with DD2 for the last 4 weeks. I didn't take it easy either! I had lots of nesting energy, a 3 yo at home, worked full-time til 38 weeks, and walked everywhere, sometimes 1-2 miles a day! I think when they say,"the second one goes faster," it's usually in reference to a (generally) shorter L&D time.

@jh524: it was tougher this time around. First trimester morning sickness was worse this time, but that was compounded by having to take care of him (I am a SAHM). There were many mornings I just wanted to lay in bed because I was so exhausted, but I had to drag myself out to feed and change him. I definitely let him watch too many cartoons because I didnt have any energy. Once I got into the second trimester I felt much better, but it has been physically challenging chasing him around, carrying him, etc.

Don't get excited, I was 2-3cm at 36 weeks with baby #2, got the same warning, and gained 1 cm each week 5+ cm at 39 weeks and the rascal didn't come until my due date. My first son came at 39.1, both labors were just under 8 hours but the second was much easier.
