I've made one. It was a serious PITA. it takes a LOT of tulle to make a nice fluffy tutu. I'd just buy one

I made a few of those tutus. It's a fun and quick project - I do it while watching TV. There's a lot of different ways to do it. What I do: I buy a few rolls of tulle, grab a book or magazine and wind all the fabric around it, cut, then tie each piece on a elastic band on one of those tall toilet paper rolls with a stuffed animal attached. It's super easy and looks great in pictures.

However, I prefer buying a cheap one online (that's a whole skirt) for everyday wear. They're more durable and won't get messed up as easily.

A good friend made DD1 one last year for her Halloween costume. She got tulle on sale at Joann and I paid her for it. It wasn't much at all. It didn't take her long to make it...but if it was me it probably would've taken me forever! it was beautiful and very full!

This reminds me to get on DD1's DT costume! @Foodnerd81: I'm going to price watch that hoodie! I think she will love it!

we make tutus at my office.... It usually takes about 4 yards of tulle to get a nice full skirt. We use a special sewing machine that "pleats" the tulle. I prefer the look of organza over a netted tulle and you dont need as much yardage maybe 3 yards instead. do you have a sewing machine?

i made one for LO's halloween costume last year (she was a stop light). I bought 4 rolls of tulle from Michaels ($4/roll) and just tied it onto a ribbon. It didn't take that long once I got the hang of it--the only part that was a pain was that it was glitter tulle so the glitter was everywhere!!

If you want to make one i can try to find the website I used--a quick review didn't turn it up but i am sure i can dig it up somewhere.

Made one for DD1's 1st birthday. It took a couple hours (I think?) but I did it while watching TV like others have said. I like how it turned out. I used one roll of tulle that I bought on Amazon.

@Foodnerd81: Yeah the non glitter tulle was $3 a roll plus I bought the ribbon (but I used the tulle to make the lights for the stop light too). I think if you can get one for $16 that is probably saner--the one I made was red/yellow/green so I don't think I could have found it in a store!

@Foodnerd81: Depends how crafty you are. I have ZERO crafty skills but love bargain hunting so I'd buy one without a doubt!

I've made them, so annoying, honestly I would look for a petiskirt online. Can find them cheap and super fluffy/cute without dealing with the mess of tulle!
