Sometimes. Usually the only people that take tupperware are my mom and MIL, and I'm always taking theirs so I feel like it evens out. If I'm making something to bring to someone I'll usually buy cheap tupperware for them so I don't have to worry about it.

Nope! My MIL does the same thing with takeout containers.

If I'm taking leftovers or sending them with people I will use the free ones I get with deli meat or use a plate with Saran Wrap so we don't have to worry about getting containers back to their owners.

Did you write your name in it? I write my name on the lid and the container in permanent marker. Then they are washed and returned. We have a big family and it would be impossible to remember whose tupperware was whose without a name. When my husband and were just dating and I brought food to a holiday, his grandma noticed I had my name on my tupperware and said "you're smart! if it has a name it gets returned!"

@mrskc: yeah it works two ways. 1) people have random tupperware at their house and see it and say "oh hey, this belongs to so-and-so!" and

2) people who might be actually wanting to steal it probably won't because they can't actually USE someone else's tupperware with their name on it - who wants to show up to a party with that and have to explain!?

@mrskc: instead of writing your name on them, why don't you loan your cheap ones?

I only loan out my store brand plastic ones. I never loan out my heavy duty ones or glass ones!
