I get annoyed by improper use of phrases. I absolutely HATE when people say "I could careless about x" - I want to reply, "really, could you? I didn't know you were so concerned about x."
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
I notice them but unless they are repeat offenders, I don't get too worked out but I def notice them! Like when people say supposably, when it's supposedly!
grapefruit / 4311 posts
No not online - I assume they are typos, bc I post fast online and am ashamed when I go back and see how many mess-ups are in my posts.
At work - typos are a whole different story and bug me to death.

YES. I try to correct the mistakes in my posts (but I don't always have time to go back and review them) . . . But have mercy, yes, mistakes are such a visual distraction and totally detract from the poster's statement/comment!

I am an awful speller so I'm sure I'm one of your offenders but I still notice when people use the wrong there, their, they're and your, you're.

@runnerd: My boss does the speak-to-type thing so his emails often have lots of errors (especially when he is writing on the go). One time we were in the car together and he was answering a text message and he responded with a simple, "Yes." He then turned to me and said, "very important," joking about how he had just used the speak-to-type thing to write a 3-letter word. The voice thing must have heard him say that and it wrote "Yes, free porn." Luckily the text was just to his assistant, but I died laughing. Ends up "very important" and "free porn" sound similar to Siri.

Just corrected my thread that used the term incorrectly...

I do get annoyed - but I'm an editor. It's my job
My least favourite is the use of an apostrophe when the plural is meant instead (like on store signs where it says "flower's on sale"). The flower's what is on sale!?? Drives me nuts.

@BakerBee: bwahaha
I hate the incorrect use of their. At least online I figure spelling mistakes are when people don't review - since I post from my phone I often have a lot.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@MsLipGloss: I try to correct mine as well; if i'm on my phone I tend to make a lot of mistakes and have to edit a lot!
I am a bit of a spelling freak. I get irked by misspellings too!
@BakerBee: hahahha that's hilarious.

Yes! But what bothers me more are people who always abbreviate...like "ur" for "Your"...ughhhhh
bananas / 9899 posts
@Ginabean3: I really, really dislike "chatspeak". It's especially off-putting in what is supposed to be a professional email exchange. How am I supposed to take you seriously if you type like that?
I don't usually let minor spelling stuff bother me, but I don't really understand how people are still misspelling online considering spell check is built in to most browsers now, lol.
pomegranate / 3779 posts
I notice, but it doesn't really bother me in casual things like forum chats or personal emails, but if it is an article or a business email, it immediately makes me think of the person as a little less professional or credible.

I love this thread. I'm so glad I'm not the only one!
@SpanielLove: WEARY/WARY. OMG. Hate that. Hahahaha. I have a girlfriend who talks about being freaked out by sketchy guys and always says "weary" instead of "wary." Drives me bonkers.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@mfa_lady: I'm starting to feel like this is something people are picking up from each other, because I don't think I saw it much until recently. Kind of like "sneak peak". That one was contagious!

@mediagirl: Ha! I thought you wrote "saving" wrong - until I clicked on the link! I had no clue there wasn't a "s"!
pomegranate / 3401 posts
@pui: yes, it's ridiculous! I belong to a mommy buy/sell group on FB and there are women who type like this ALL THE TIME. it's really annoying and makes them seem uneducated. you're a grown woman, type like one.
"because" does not equal "cuz"
That's the worst offender in my opinion. "cuz" this and "cuz" that. ahhhh!
grapefruit / 4089 posts
On here? No, little spelling errors do not bother me. I assume that they are responding from their phone (terrible autocorrect!!), or that they are a busy person and didn't have time to proofread, or that they simply made a mistake. It bothers me more to see errors in formal pieces of writing, like published novels and work documents.
I can't stand when people use abbreviations like "ur" or "r", and I appreciate capitalization and punctuation where appropriate, but I'm certainly not going to get my panties in a twist because someone uses a word or phrase incorrectly. I've got bigger things to stress about!

@mrbee: haha! I totally didn't write this to call you out. I saw it everywhere this morning. Facebook and IG were the worst culprits. I send a notice to all of our customers about it 2 weeks in advance just so I can keep the amount of "What do we do for "daylight savings times?" emails to the minimum!!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
Oh and ps...I'm not saying I have perfect spelling by any means. It drives me bonkers when I see a mistake I made in a post that is too old to edit!!!
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@mediagirl: You must be wary of all the typoes. Ur a hero for putting up with it! I would be loosing my mind!!
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@spaniellove: Honestly, I get so annoyed by it it's irrational. Glad I'm not alone! (And I think you're right. Ack! The worst is yet to come!)
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
I notice, and get annoyed when they're used repeatedly (so I know its not just a typo). Not on HB, but on Facebook, or in professional emails. I edit DH's emails often before he sends them (he rarely uses the right 'there/their/they're').
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
Yeah, but I'm more critical when I write it. I reread my posts about a billion times before and after I post. I try to be grammatically correct. Although, grammar was always a struggle for me in school, so I know I'm nowhere near perfect. I google grammar rules all the time. I'm sure there are times my post will drive others crazy with my incorrect use of commas. (Which I know I can overuse.)
As for others, I'm not too worried. I know most of my typos/errors are because I use my phone half the time.
pineapple / 12234 posts
I hate when I make them. I'm usually on my phone when writing e-mails or on HB. I catch them easier on the computer!!
pomegranate / 3383 posts
@pui: @tinyperson: this and this! Text speak and using an apostrophe to pluralize are my biggest peeves!! I've seen 'mom's' written on this forum too many times! And I find text speak really immature.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@tinyperson: YES. I also cannot stand the incorrect use of quotation marks. You don't use them for emphasis!!!!
watermelon / 14206 posts
Not normally in places like HB and FB, but it does bother me a lot to see signs misspelled and looking awful along the side of the road.
pomelo / 5000 posts
My biggest pet peeve is the misuse of "literally." I saw a funny website where they illustrated statements with the misuse of literally. For example, some famous person had said, "I love him so much. We're like, literally, two peas in a pod!" and the picture was of their heads in a pea pod.
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
there, their, they're.
your welcome.
lol. @mrbee:
honeydew / 7444 posts
@tinyperson: @Sammyfab: Or, how about when the last name ends with an S, but they use an apostrophe before the S when referring to their family?
@Happygal: "literally" drives me batty too. Like, literally.
I hate it when people overuse "myself" because they think it sounds more formal. I want to scream, "it doesn't make you more professional by using that word!"
pomegranate / 3113 posts
I don't mind typos so much, but word misuse gets to me, especially when it seems like it's becoming a "thing." For example, I've seen phase instead of faze a lot lately and it started to irk me once I noticed it. Same with weary/wary. I'm sure there are lots of others but I can't think of them right now.
pomelo / 5257 posts
Yup. Spelling and grammar mistakes drive me crazy! I'm a writer, so that probably explains it. Plus, my mom is a former English teacher and was always a stickler for proper grammar and spelling
