The baby hog thread got me to thinking..... thinking that I just don't get it!! What is it with people's need to pick up other, all be it very young, human beings??

You see it at work all the time. Someone will bring their baby in and a crowd gathers round - and lots of people, usually women, all ask "for a hold". Sometimes this is women who didn't even know the person who's baby it is!! I just don't get it. What do they get out of it?? I like to see other people's babies but I have no desire to touch them!!

I thought that would change when my BFF had her baby boy. She is, after, all the closest I have to a sister. But it hasn't! I love seeing him, I like to see him play with his toys and I turn to mush when he interacts with me but I'm quite happy to sit next to him and play. When he was very young, I held him twice - both times because she gave him to me to feed. If he wanted a cuddle from me, as he might as he gets older, I will give him one but he is a human being, he is not a toy to be picked up as and when I want to.

I don't get it!! What is this need to "hold" people's babies?? Do you feel the need? What am I missing?!!
