I'm pregnant with identical twins. One grandma was an identical twin (who have birth to fraternal twins) and one grandma was a fraternal twin. There are a host of twins in my extended family as well, They say that fraternal can "run in your family," but they really don't know why an egg splits to make identicals. So, while science would generally say that having identical twins isn't a hereditary thing, in families like mine it's hard to completely buy into that!

No twins in my family...

Oh and to add - my mom was born in the 1940s - so my grandma didn't know she was having twins til she delivered - can you imagine that shock !!!

I always said I wanted twins as well!! Only I wanted them FIRST.. not second. Obviously I'd still love them if I had them... My mom said there are some twins way back in her family though not really directly related.

There aren't any twins in my family. We may have twins since we are using fertility treatments to conceive.

@twoofeverything: I know that early on it would be rough... but I remember thinking once Cobi reached about 8 months how fun it would be for him to have a playmate. Sometimes he just seems so bored with just me and him at home. I think it would be so fun once they're older!

@runnerd: same thing happened to my grandmother with my dad and his twin brother. They told her after my dad was born that it would be a little while before the other baby was born. She said, wait, WHAT other baby?? Plus she already had two kids and she was 40 years old LOL

Everyone expects someone in our family to have twins, since my dad is a twin, but so far no one has. Now I'm starting fertility treatments so my odds will be slightly higher (depending on the treatment) but I'm sure if we wind up with twins everyone will think it's because of my dad, haha.

I have 7 week old fraternal twin boys. There are a couple of twins two and three generations back on my dad's side, but nothing tgar made me think I might end up with twins!

@andrea86: Agreed! And you're right..."work" probably sounds bad...there's nothing more amazing than this!

My cousin had triplets but she had fertility treatments.

My grandma's sister had identical twins. My grandma and her doctor at the time, thinks my aunt was a twin, but one passed, since she had bleeding like a miscarriage. My cousin has triplets but she used fertility treatments.
DH says that twins are in his family too, but I am not sure how.

We just have one on the way. I really hope the next pregnancy is a single baby too!!

We have twins on my dad's side and my sister just had twins 3 weeks after I had LO! Now I am so nervous now for our next pregnancy

2 sets. My grandpa on my dads side and my moms cousins. No twins here yet

So interesting! I love twins and said I wanted them until our U/S and I found myself PRAYING for just one!!!!! It's a lot.

My aunt has a 4 year old daughter and due to complications from her pregnancy became unable to conceive again "naturally." So they did IVF and had twin boys, who will be 2 in May. How she handled that (and how she handles them now!) is insane to me. She's so calm! It takes a special person.

But brace yourself... because the doctors were WRONG... and she's due 4/3 with her FOURTH child. Yep she'll have a 4 year old, twin 1 year olds, and a newborn. And those boys are crazyyyyy. I don't know how she does it!!!!!!!!!

My aunt had three sets of twins. It may have stopped there because none of my cousins have had twins.

Twins are in my family, but only because of IVF, which is the same reason I have mine:)

I have identical twin boys which don't run in families but my dad is a fraternal twin and also has fraternal twin brothers. My grandmother had 10 kids! I have three and can't even fathom 10. I couldn't imagine not having my boys but they sure are a lot of work. Twins are not double the work they are at last triple the work! Of course they are so much fun too and it is amazing to see them interact.
