Do people ever do things like ask "how is my baby?" Or hold your LO and call them "my baby," "my boy," or "my girl?" Does it bug you?
My dad always referred to LO as "my baby" (not "my" as in me, his mom, but referring to himself) while I was pregnant until my sister told him to stop because it sounded creepy. Now that he's here, MIL holds him and calls him "my (her) boy." It sometimes bugs me, but I haven't said anything yet. Not sure if I will or not.

Mine is still cooking but my SIL kept going on about "her baby" when we told her. I hate it. It's weird.

My Mum does this and my baby is not even born yet! She also calls my cats her cats and regularly talks to them about coming to their rightful home (her house to which they have never been..).
Yeah, kind of awkward.
To be honest I don't let it bother me. She will be a big support to us when baby arrives and if the pay off is that she wants to call our baby her baby, well, so be it!

Only if they do it repeatedly. My mom just doesn't get it. She is convinced since her baby is having a baby that said actual baby belongs to her somehow...

My sister calls him hers "how's my logey?" She has done this the whole time but to me it is endearing. She has 4 kids of her own and was really excited I was having one. So I think this is her way of showing it. She also lives across the country so I don't have to deal with it constantly. If my other sister did something like that I would probably completely flip my lid. But that is the relationship I have with her.

My mom and mil do, and my grandma did before she passed away. At first it bothered me, but then I realized lo is theirs too. She's their granddaughter. Their baby. And I should be happy that my lo has so much love that everyone wants her

DH's grandmother (MIL's mom) calls DH and his 4 siblings "her babies" and does constantly. I can tell it annoys MIL to no end. I will not be surprised if she does the same with our baby. When DH and I got engaged, his gma said "you may think he's YOUR boy, but he's MY boy!" She is old and sweet and it irks me a little but I know she is this way with everyone.

OMG @sea_bass: You obviously have more patience than me! If my MIL said the "rightful home" line about my child I swear I would punch her square on the nose!! She can have the dogs if she wants....!!!
I think it depends on the context and the meaning behind it. If she said, over the phone "and how's my baby?" I think i'd be fine with it. If she said "pass me my baby" or "you cant feed that to my baby" I'd put the nut on her! Not cool!

@Cherrybee: hahaha. She also wants her grandmother name to be Mamie, all well and good, but it does sound a lot like Mummy...
It does't bother me but my sister doesn't have kids yet and I imagine her future kids would call my Mum the same thing. Not sure if my sister would be cool with it..
It much like what @Mrs Hedgehog says, "she is convinced since her baby is having a baby that said actual baby belongs to her somehow..." <-- This big time.
Basically she would move in here and care for our child if we let her. Given I might actually need that I'll bite my tongue. I'll basically trade most of my dignity for help

haha,....Yeah my mom will probably do this. in fact, the other day, she told me, "we're having a baby" and i was just like....uhh.....no, *we* are not. And my mom picked "mumsy" as her name, which is an awful lot like Mum and Mommy. But since my mom lives far away, it won't be in my face all the time, at least. I hope!
But yeah, "how's my baby" is not a big deal, I could easily see her saying "my baby" instead of "my grandbaby" .....like cherrybee said, the other stuff would weird me out!

In Korean they say "how's our baby.. "Our baby this and that so it's not a big deal to me.

My mom and dad do, but it doesn't bother me. It would probably bother me if anyone else did it.

It doesn't bother me. I have a co-worker who does it, and I just love it because it shows me how much the co-worker cares for me and the baby. My mom does it too. That being said, it bothers me a lot when my sister does it, probably because she's made some pretty questionable parenting choices and I don't want her to feel like she has any claim on LO.

My mom does and it doesn't really bother me. When my mil did, it did something to me & I had to let her know that this was definitely not her baby!

It doesn't bother me. I like that our families all feel protective/ownership of this baby. I think of it as "our baby" too! But I already know I'm lucky not to have the same level of insanity some of you all experience with in-laws. My mom already has 7 bio grandchildren and 2 "adopted" (not really, but she has younger friends with no parents in their lives, so their children call my mom grandma, too) g-kids. My in-laws already have a grandaughter and grandson.
So we have a very good mix of interested but not overbearing.

yep, he's the first grandbaby on both sides, and also either extended family hasn't seen a newborn in years. i think it's endearing. they all love on him, and aren't pushy about it.

My MIL says it and it usually doesn't bother me, until it gets overly excessive. I wouldn't say anything though, because I know she just loves her granddaughter. My FIL on the other hand, is constantly trying to bring our dog home with him and says things like "he's happier with us, he's our dog too, it's terrible here, he wants to come to our home, etc." and that drives me batty. If he wants a dog so bad, he should get one himself! And no, he is not your dog.

ONLY when my MIL does it. But, that's because I'm being petty and resentful lately. I like it when my parents do it, or other people I'm close with.

my mom and i got into an argument about this! in the beginning i was a little um...over protective
now i'm like eh whatev. i know that really he is MY baby (insert maniacal laugh here)

I get this all the time, I have several friends that say "how's my baby girl doing" and it doesn't really bother me, but they say it to me not to her, if they said it to her that would kind of freak me out a little!

yeah, i have family members who do it. it doesn't really bother me. but yesterday mil kept referring to herself as 'mama' when talking to the babies and i kept repeating 'grandma' to them

Neither my parents or ILs do this but our sitter does. It doesn't bother me because I know she is doing it as a term of endearment and while in her care she protects my kids as her own.
