I've seen people use baby power! I don't know anyone personally who use it. But I've seen a few moms use it on their babies in public restrooms. I thought they weren't recommended anymore due to yeast growth or something like that? I'm not sure..

DH made me put it on our registry...it was the one thing he is sure we are going to need...so i couldnt say no...

I use it in my hair to freshen it up. I used it on LO once and didn't like it. A friend of mine uses it every diaper change.

I use Curash baby powder which is cornstarch based and contains zinc oxide but I only use it at night to make sure all A's creases are nice and dry.

I've never seen anyone use it since my parents did on my siblings. My sis uses it as dry shampoo.

The only time I used it was when L had bad diaper rash. We were using wet paper towels instead of baby wipes so his raw skin wouldn't be irritated, but if his skin was at all damp before we applied the Desitin it made things a million times worse, so the baby powder was helpful with making sure he was totally dry.

I use it occasionally if she seems to be starting to get a little red and normally it will stop it from becoming a fill blown rash.

i've never used it on my baby. I use it on my underarms pre-waxing since whenever i go for professional waxing, they put powder first.

I use cornstarch baby powder (no talc) on LO somewhat regularly (mainly at night when I know she won't have a nappy change for 12-14 hrs). We live in a very hot and humid climate and I've found that it helps keep LO less prone to nappy rash.

We were told by a nurse in our parenting class not to use it because the powder is inhaled by the infants and it's bad for them. So we haven't.

@travellingbee: Oh is that reason? I thought it had something to do with yeast infections. The inhalation explanation makes sense though!

We use it occasionally when we want to keep her a little extra dry or like others, if she's a little irritated. We also use baby oil though, which I don't think others use that much anymore either. lol. I'm old school.

@banana: yeah apparently the AAP recommends not using it for that reason.

I've used it a couple times on DS in the summer when he was extra sweaty and starting to get a little red.

I do...at the beach to take off sand. It works really well for that. For diaper changes, no so much lol.

I've never used baby powder on my kids! Will take some with me when we go on vacay for the sand though!

We use it like crazy in the hospital (the ICU is a stinky, soggy place) but I've never used it on a baby!

Occasionally in the morning to get him smelling fresh again after a doozy of a diaper.

I haven't used it, but I do have some that was given to me when I was pregnant. I've heard of using it at the beach to get all the sand off so I might try that this summer (which it's almost Summer here yay!) if I remember. Otherwise I'll never use it.

I use it sometimes (a cornstarch powder, not the talc-based one) after I've had to do a thorough wipe/cleaning (such as after an epic poop). I usually pat the area dry with a dry cloth and then put a little powder in my hand, away from the baby, and then just pat her bum and thighs a bit with it to keep the area dry. I don't know if it's really doing anything.
I do love the smell.

I have used Gold Bond Baby a few times . . . but not regularly.

I use it occasionally when we're battling a bad rash over top of medicated cream per my peds recommendation. Cornstarch based!

I've never used any of the 3 bottles we were gifted. Planning on using them at the beach for sand removal.

@travellingbee: that's what we tell our pts where I work. We don't even have it anywhere in the hospital.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@kemma: Same here.
Hubby uses it all the time, but I don't. He douses it like crazy too. I'm eh about it because it gets in between DS's thigh creases and he's a sweater so I'm afraid it'll do more damage than good! I use it as dry shampoo though. LOL. If I see DS getting a lil red, I swab a lil butt paste on.
All the older folks (my parents and in laws, aunts, etc.) always ask why we don't put baby powder on when I change his diaper.

@chrispygal: I use it on myself! I don't know if I'll use it on LO, though.

Some people still do use it but I never have. The hospital told us not to use it because the dust particles can be breathed in by the baby

We had a couple older woman buy some as gifts, but we were told not to use it due to asthma! I use it in my hair if I don't have time to wash, it soaks up the oil!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@travellingbee: @banana: same here! I ended up using it by putting it on my hand and then spreading it on when I needed some areas to dry out on her skin. It worked great and I wasn't worried about the inhalation issue by doing it with my hand. Man, I love the smell of baby powder on babies so much.
