Yes. Luckily our good friend is a carpenter/jack of all trades by profession so he can fix almost everything that my husband can't fix himself. But if we have to call in a specialist for something like an appliance hubs is not comfortable with me being home alone, and neither am I.

No, I have the more flexible schedule, so I've often come home and let repairmen int the house. Or worked from home if we were having floors installed. I have never felt like they're going to do anything they shouldn't, or that they look at me funny. I also don't just hire people off the street, though

Luckily we rarely have to hire someone thanks to my handy husband and contractor dad but when we do have to, we always use people my dad recommends and has worked with before. The only exception I can think of is the cable guy in which case I always keep the phone and gun nearby.

Side rant: I get irritated when the cable company tells me the repair man will call when he's on his way and then doesn't call AND shows up in a vehicle marked with a different company because they contract out their repair calls. I've refused to let them in until I can verify with the company because I feel like that's dangerous.

I don't get nervous, but DH worries about me. I've only had to be home alone a few times, and each repairman was pleasant to speak to. They never made me feel uneasy.

No not really. I don't think about the worst in people. I just feel awkward that they're working and I'm supervising.

Yes. I am nearly 5'4", thinner side and young..I always get huge guys come to my door that look like they could kick my ass if they wanted to. I usually have someone over if DH isn't home but DH always tries to be home when they come because he has the same fear.

Yes. I have a big dog... but the second people meet him they know he's very friendly and wouldn't hurt them.

Sometimes, especially now that LO is here I feel very protective of her.

Usually the contractors in our place are people that I've worked with professionally, so I'm not at all worried. But when it's someone I don't know, yeah I get freaked out a bit and make sure our 'ferocious' dog is with me.

@mrbee: We have tons of mountain lions here! They start roaming the streets once in a while, so scary!

Nope! Probably comes from having come from a family of trades people, I figure they just want to get their job done and move on.

No, but we also always hire actual professional repair people, not some random "jack of all trades" off craigslist or something; so I always figure they just want to get their job done and wouldn't risk getting fired/worse.

Mr. Bee - we do actually have a guard cat! She can be very aggressive to people outside of me, my husband and LO. In fact, I always have to put her away when people come over because she will go out of her way to bite people or scratch them if she feels threatened at all. If she isn't put away, she will hover as close to someone as she can get, waiting for an opportunity to strike. She will also sit in front of LO so people cannot approach without getting hissed at (It is very stressful, to say the least). The only time we had a plumber in who gave me a bad vibe - the cat saw him and ran upstairs and hid under the bed! Needless to say, we will NEVER call that company ever again...
