We tried swaddling our LO the first few nights he was home (he was swaddled in the hospital, too). But, he freaks out/screams/tries to bust out every time we swaddle him. He loves his hands/self-soothes with his hands so I'm wondering if he is just one of those babies that doesn't like to be swaddled. He'll be 2 weeks old tomorrow.
Happiest Baby on the Block says there is no such thing as a baby who doesn't like being swaddled....
Anyone else have a baby that didn't do well with swaddling?

Me! LO was under the bilirubin lights for 3 days in nothing but a diaper so I am not sure if that attributed to it, but there was no swaddling done in our household, she wouldn't have it!

Yes, my baby hated it and broke out everytime. Stopped pretty early, maybe 2 wks old?

My baby hated being swaddled. She prefers to sleep with her arms above her head!

Don't have my own experience quite yet, but my friend's brand new baby (13 days old) prefers to have her hands out, and she's already learned to self-soothe. So if my friend swaddles her, she leaves at least 1 arm out.

Lala hated getting into the swaddle, but once she settled it was the only thing that would keep her asleep. Have you tried the swaddle wraps like Kiddapotamus?

Ours didn't mind having the bottom half of his swaddled, but he needed his hands free. The swaddle didn't end up lasting too long in our house.

Lo would fight it but once she was swaddled she loved it. Every baby is different, and mommy's usually know best, so do what you think is right!

@Mrs. Jacks: we do have that swaddle and I tried it again this morning after his 4:30 am feed....lo and behind he slept from 5-7:30 (with some chirps around 630 but he fell back asleep). Will try again tonight!

I just swaddle the lower body to keep her feet together. But she doesnt like her hands to be constricted.

@winniebee: Our LO liked swaddling while in the hospital. But afterwards she did not like. She likes being able to move her arms around.

@winniebee: it may just take repeated exposure. I'm with Dr. Karp and think that every baby can learn to love being swaddled :). I'm glad to hear that you are getting some sleep!

My 6 week old has hated it from day one. All the nurses laughed in the hospital because he came out wanting to sprawl out immediately. He fought them in the nursery and has fought me every time we try it at home. I still attempt to swaddle every few nights to see if it'll grow on him, but he'll scream bloody murder until we take it off. He likes his arms above his head.

We didn't swaddle Lo. She liked being free. She also loved stretching her legs out from day 1
