I know not 'you' (the one giving birth) but either the father or whoever is still in the room.
I remember in movies where they let the father do it. Do they still do that or does the doctor do it? Or do they ask if you want to?

They didn't offer it to me! But then again, Mrs. Bee's placenta had separated and so that probably was the priority at the time!

@MrBee- If they would have offered, would you have done it?

Yes I think they do if there are no complications but in my case the cord was wrapped around my daughter's neck multiple times so my husband could not cut it.

In Canada they do. The hubs was so stressed that he had to do it twice to cut through. Said it was tougher then he thought. Lol

Yes. Husband was asked if he wanted to cut the cord!

Depends on the doctor. Sometimes they will go ahead and cut it before they even ask so if your SO wants to cut it, make sure to verbalize this right before the baby is born. Sometimes they will ignore birth plans too, so don't rely just on that.
Rob Sr. planned to cut the cord but it broke during delivery, so the doctor had to cut it, and Rob Sr. got to trim it later.

My hubby got to trim the cord since I had a c-section. It was nice cuz the nurses took pictures of him trimming the cord while I was still on the table being closed up. I was a little jealous that hubby got to see him and hold him first, but it all went away when he brought our son to me.

It took a good 20 minutes for it to stop pulsating, but once it stopped the midwife let DH cut it.

My husband cut the umbilical cord pretty much as soon as I delivered my son.

My hubs cut the cord and then trimmed it down closer to Wombat and clamped the cord thingie on Wombat. This was all done once the cord finished pulsing.

i'm not sure what my husband would do, but i could tell you i wouldn't want to do it! it's kinda gross!

They didn't offer it to us, but I think that was partially because there were some concerns about my daughter that they wanted to look at right away.

My husband cut our daughters cord, that was almost 3 years ago. We were also at a birth center and he also had the option to catch her but I wouldn't let go of his hand. He wants to catch the baby this time.

I don't think the Dr. ask my husband, he said here hold these scissors then he said cut here, and he did

There were a few concerns when my son was born so my husband didn't get to cut the cord, but they did have him trim it once everything was more settled, and someone grabbed our camera to take a picture too

I didn't know this was an option, but I bet my husband will take them up on the offer.

They do, barring any medical complications with the baby where we have to act quickly, because Dad's take a long time to do it, which when the baby needs to be resuscitated, time is of the essence.
