Sorry for all the questions this week : )
We're thinking of washing baby's clothes ready for her arrival. Can we wash them with our regular detergent do you think, or do we need to buy something special?

I bought the special stuff (Ivory Snow) at first, but then DH did laundry and didn't know to wash her seperately, used fabric softener etc, she didn't react so I just quit buying the expensive stuff and everything gets washed together.

Yeah, mostly because you don't know how their skin will react with the dyes and other additives in soaps. I use All Free and Clear which is not ridiculously expensive and works great on all of our clothes.

at first we did but then we accidently did a load of his stuff with ours and used regular det and it was fine...now we use regular. its perfectly fine to use regular det as long as your lo doesnt have sensitive skin.

I would use something natural and dye free since babies have sensitive skin. We use all free and clear

@MungBean: Same here. We use All Free and Clear now and will use it for the baby as well.

I use the same unscented 7th Generation detergent that we use on our clothes. I never bothered buying anything special.

We never bought anything special. The only thing we do is wash LO's clothes separately and use a little bit less detergent and go with a longer rinse cycle to make sure there is no residue left on her clothes. So far it's been fine.

I have a bottle of dreft I used before the baby was here and still use if I have a full load of baby stuff otherwise I just throw her clothes in with ours and use regular detergent.

No need to be sorry, we all ask a million questions. That's what this site is here for!
My lo is 14 months and I still use dreft. Makes me feel better about her soft, delicate baby skin.

@mediagirl: Good to know. We use All Free and Clear Now. Glad that I will be able to just use that once baby is here still!

You never know how your baby will react. We've been using Rocking Green on all our laundry now since baby just to keep things simple. One day we went to a friends' house and their daughter dressed up my baby in one of her old onesies that she uses on dolls, and my guy got a rash on his tummy. We weren't on solids yet, so I think it had to be the laundry detergent. So, yes, some babies are sensitive to some laundry detergent.
