Not always, I'm not a fan of cake and neither is DH, so we usually choose our favorite dessert instead!

Usually cake but when it's DH's birthday anything is fair game since he's not a huge sweets fan. This year I made a apple crumble pie.

@locavore_mama: I'm trying to think of something that ties into the Pete theme....maybe brownies? I guess choco cake would do the trick!

I went to a party where they served minnie mouse cake pops instead of a cake! no one complained... they were so cute (and delicious)! The only thing is there was no candle for the birthday girl to blow out.

Cake, pie, or cupcakes, how about groovy button cookies too? A little frosting and it would be super easy.
ps- I love your theme so much!

Cake isn't a must, but some type of dessert that can hold a candle or a topper is a must. Super big ice cream sundae or key lime pie anyone?

Cake is always a must! I get annoyed when I go to a kids party and there is only cake for the birthday kid, or they serve a cookie cake. Cookie cakes are the worst!

@wheres_c: lol, my friend said the same thing when I suggested a cookie cake!

There's always some type of cake there, even if it's cheeseCAKE.
