Luckily, DH and I do. I think it would be hard if we didn't (depending on how much they differed). Maybe not so much until we had kids, but I think it would be difficult trying to decide which views to to teach our kids. Do you and your DH have the same or similar religious views?

No. I was raised Catholic and am still practicing, whereas DH grew up in the church of England and aside from his christening had very little involvement. However, he has agreed to raise LO Catholic and he's very supportive of my beliefs, so all is well.

We have the same morals and ideas about the afterlife. But the religions we label ourselves as do have a couple of fundamental differences. We have discussed them at length and support each other even if we don't agree 100%.
I identify as Jewish and DH is a Christian, but neither of us are extremely observant or devout.

we have the same religious views and our faith is central to our relationship as well as the way we raise our family! I not only think it would be hard for me to partner with someone who had differing views, but I don't think I'd be able to marry someone with differing views because I feel so strongly about my faith being the center of my relationship with my spouse as well as raising my kids.

Hmmm, we are in the same religion, but have differing views spiritually. Idk if that makes sense. We have different theological and spiritual views, but we attend the same church and will raise our children in the same religion.
I don't think it will ever be an issue for us, since we both strongly believe that our kids should choose what religion/spirituality/philosophy best fits their lives. So we're both pretty open to having religious/spiritual discussions with our kids and helping them explore all their options to find the best fit for them individually. We'll start them out in our church, but neither of us have an issue if they decide they want to quit going or switch churches/religions.

No I am Catholic & Dh is Southern Baptist. Fortunately, he comes to mass with me occasionally, but we still disagree on some religious issues.

@Honeybee: I really like what you said about letting your kids choose the religion/spirituality/philosophy that best fits their lives. DH and I plan to do that as well. I think it will really help them learn to respect others' beliefs and just be more tolerant in general. My beliefs differ strongly from my mother's, but she has always been supportive of whatever I choose to believe, and I always respect her so much for that.

DH are both Christians. I was raised a non-practicing Catholic, and when I met DH he was very involved in his church, so I started going with him every Sunday, and yea ever since then we share the same views.

@Honeybee: @lawbee11: I feel the same way. I also feel like it is a little different situation for me since no matter what religion my daughter chooses to associate with, she came out of me, so she is Jewish and is a member of that tradition with a home in Israel if she desires it. If she wants to pursue other paths to her higher power through other spiritual avenues, that is okay. Judaism will always be there for her if she wants to be a part of it, but the choice is hers. I hope she finds something that gives her peace and an entity to pray to if she ever needs it.

I agree with @mrs. wagon. There would be no possibility of me marrying someone that didn't share the same beliefs. I just wouldn't do it. Marriage is the most intimate relationship possible between two people, and sharing the same beliefs with DH only enhances it.

YES - exactly the same views.
we have friends that don't, and they have major arguments about it - unfortunately we have been with them & witness to 2 or 3 of said fights.
I actually thought this issue would lead to them not getting married at all since they couldn't agree, but they are making it work.

Yup. We both have deep Christian beliefs and views, though neither of us is dedicated to a specific doctrine (DH has been Catholic, Baptist, and nondenom; I've always been Methodist per family tradition). We find all denominations valuable for different aspects of faith, but place the most value in the community, the spiritual feeding, and the personal faith journey.

@lawbee11: @highwire: Well I converted in college, so I feel like it would be hypocritical of me to deny my children the right to choose. Also, DH and I don't feel like there is one "right" religion/church, just forms that fit certain individuals, so we don't feel much pressure to keep our kids in our church.
Highwire, I feel like Judaism is different because it is cultural as well as spiritual/religious. I know a few poeple are not necessarily involved in the spiritual side of Judaism, but still very much identify with the culture. It's awesome to me that you're willing to pass down those traditions and values but still remain openminded about your child discovering other religions!

sure do...we are both catholic...its actually how we met...i was the youth coordinator for my church and he was the youth group coordinator for his church youth group. we were at a lot of the same events. plus one of my really good guy friends was dating his older sister...

Nope, we do not.
DH is becoming somewhat of a lapsed Catholic. He believes in God and is still spiritual, but has realized he has a lot of disagreements with the dogma of his religion.
I was raised with no religion (lapsed Catholic mom, lapsed Jewish dad) and I don't believe in God or Jesus or anything much other than Karma and science.
DH strongly believes that kids should grow up believing in something and that it's important during rough times in your life to have faith in God. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I can still support him in that. But neither of us want our kids growing up in a religion that doesn't approve of more liberal viewpoints, like gay marriage. I also don't want our kids being taught that there is only one true way to believe and that all others are going to hell.
He's been interested in alternatives, so I think we may check out the Unitarian Universalist church. They are liberal, open to all viewpoints, and teach kids about world religions.
BTW, having different beliefs has never really been a problem for us. To me, we may not agree on whether to believe in God or not, but we agree the stuff that's important to us - having religious tolerance, living a moral life, helping those in need, and believing that everyone who wants to should be able to get married.

We're both reform Jews. I had a serious relationship with someone who wasn't Jewish before DH and that was one of the reasons we didn't last so finding a Jewish husband was a must. I do think it makes life easier.

Yes, we are both non-denominational Christians and whole-hardheartedly follow after God. My ex-husband did not believe the same and is now a professed atheist. It caused major issues in our marriage and how we each parented DS. After my divorce I didn't even consider dating someone that didn't have the same worldview as it is a vital necessity for my spouse to help me love God more and fulfill the plan He has for me and for me to do the same for him.

for the most part we have the same views. he's a little more atheist than agnostic, I'm agnostic. his parents (tried) to raise him as a Jehovah's Witness, so he's really bitter about that and has sworn off religion as a whole.
He does celebrate holidays with myself and my family, and we'll be continuing the traditions with our daughter and any future LOs, but we don't attend church and will not be having our children baptized or anything.

We are both Jewish, but neither of us was brought up religious (much more so the cultural aspects of it). Over the last few years, DH has gotten much more anti religion (all religions) and now probably doesn't really consider himself Jewish at all. He considers himself agnostic/atheist. I do consider myself culturally Jewish. I don't think it'll make a difference in the raising of our kids however, as we don't plan to make religion a centerpiece in our lives (won't attend temple, send them to religious school/classes, etc).

Yes we do; both of us are athiest. I can't see either of us being in serious relationships with someone who was very religious.

I am agnostic and my husband is athiest. I grew up in a strongly religious family and it wasn't for me. My husband grew up Christian. We agree our children can choose where they want to go. But we will introduce many religious views to them.

Yes we are both Catholic and it was very important to me that we had the same views and beliefs. At this point in our lives, I am definitely the more observant one in our family, but that is mainly because right now I have more time to dedicate to the church and it is easier for me to remember holy days and that kind of thing. He appreciates my reminders though

We are both from the same religious tradition, but Mr. Jacks is an atheist and I am not.
I've had multiple religious traditions input in my life so I don't feel strongly that my girls have to be any one thing and I feel really good about exposing them to lots of different religions!

Not quite, but close. I do not believe in a god at all & he is open to the possibility. But he was raised & was a practicing catholic through college, I wasn't raised with any religion.

We are both on the same page, I was baptised United but haven't been to church in 20+ years, he wasn't baptised and we won't be raising our child with any specific religion, but will be borrowing morals and values from many different religions.
We will celebrate Christmas not as a religious holiday, but as a time for loving, caring, giving and family. -
