I love baking with lots! Try Depression Cake, there aren't any eggs so if they eat the batter it doesn't matter and it's delicious!
My best suggestion is to premeasure and layout in order all of the ingredients during nap if your lo is new to baking and just wants to dump and mix.
Have fun!

One of our favorite activities! I agree with @Cole: that if you do some of the more boring parts by yourself you might keep your LO's attention longer. M loves to have her own small bowl. I measure things out and put them into her bowl and then she gets to dump them into the big bowl. She also has her own scoops, spatula, etc, to play with while I'm doing most of the actual baking. She likes to hold the recipe and pretend she's reading it to me. We talk through every step. She's getting pretty good at stirring things without making much of a mess. This morning we made this cake for my dad's birthday tomorrow:

(I'm dairy / soy free while BFing my son - but the cake's not too bad!).

@Cole: I just looked up Depression cake and sounds great! I think I may try that with DD today.

Dd loves being in the kitchen! We bake anything really. So far we've made cookies, muffins, bread and Apple pie. Pizza is also really fun because you can give them a small piece of dough to roll out and that can occupy them for really long!
It's re important to teach kitchen oven safety! Dd actually is really good at cracking eggs. We just do it at the sink and wash hands immediately after.

DD helped me make a quiche this morning and brownies this afternoon.
Like PPs I do mise en place beforehand and then have her do the dumping and stirring.
I've found that she prefers eating food that she's helped make.

She prefers cooking over baking, but the only baking we've done is mixes she's an excellent potato washer!

DS loves to help bake. We often do banana bread, but anytime I'm baking, he'll come lend a hand.
