If I don't see the kids wash their hands, then I'm usually pretty skeptical... but rather than accuse them of not washing, I ask to smell their hands (for the scent of soap). Usually they're happy to let me smell them, but sometimes they'll guiltily run to the bathroom to wash or rewash their hands!

Um, no. There's not much she fibs about, but this is a frequent one. We have a powder room right off our kitchen, so it's really obvious when I don't hear water run/her hands aren't damp.
Any ideas on getting around this? Maybe I need more exciting soap!

Nope I just feel them and see if they are cool. They never use hot water so if they have washed them they feel a little chilly.
