I agree-- marriage is thicker than blood is thicker than water. When I married dh I made him my most immediate family.

I don't really distinguish, to be honest. Family is family. My BFF might as well be family. They all mean just as much to me.

I think family is thicker than water, so it just depends who or what you consider family. My BFF and I have been friends for close to 20 years and I consider her family and therefore thicker than water. I also have some pretty crappy "family" members, but I don't consider them family so I guess you could call them water.

Nope. Marriage is thickest but blood is not necessarily thicker than water. After seeing my family completely dissolve after my grandmother died, I have no more illusions that family is here to stay any more than friends.
