Just for a visit...not for an official housewarming party?

No, but I was really happy to receive a gift from my SIL during her first visit here. The house was 8 or 9 months old. I n the past I received small gifts from family friends for moving into new apartments. Very kind gesture.
ETA: I don't think I have visited a friend's new home when it would still be considered new.

Yup! In Korean culture, we take either toilet paper or laundry detergent. I got sooo much Tide when we bought our house!

I try to bring a little something whenever we are invited to someone's home, but it gets out of control.
I like to bring potted plants. That's fascinating about the toilet paper and laundry detergent!

I do now. Before, all of us were broke so it wasn't expected, but now I try to do it. I took my friend some new kitchen towels, and for a friend who moved and had a new baby, I took them a lasagna.

If the house was purchased (as opposed to rented) I bring a small gift or at least send a card.

I'm a gift giver and love to bring over a small gift when I visit a friend's new house. Last time I bought initial mugs, an apron, and cookbook.

Not unless it's a housewarming party. If they haven't unpacked yet, I'd bring food.

I'll usually bring flowers if it's an unofficial non-housewarming type thing

@pinkcupcake: @chopsuey: Really?! So interesting! I have a new bottle of Ecos...lol

@autumnlove: back in the day tide was good enough. Now it's tricky bc people are all about free and clear and have scent preferences! HE vs regular washers too!
I'd take flowers, a plant or food now!

@chopsuey: Ha, yeah that is tricky! They got their keys yesterday and they said they already moved in a lot of stuff yesterday and today...what?! They prob need food!

@Smurfette: Not sure! It's a weird Korean tradition! Maybe because it's something every household needs?

@Smurfette: I'm not 100% sure either! I think something about how the detergent bubbles - like wishing that they will have as much happiness as the amount of bubbles?? Something like that! I don't think I explained it very well

I don't always remember, but I like to bring people a cute handsoap. Usually they are happy because they haven't gotten around to putting soap in all the bathrooms. So fascinated by the detergent/TP though!

Yes, always something even if it's not the official housewarming. Maybe some fruit or wine, or a nice candle.

I usually bring something the first time I go to a friend's new house. I like to bring a decorative tray with some kind of baked goods on it...

yep, food, wine or flowers. I usually do anytime I get invited over a friends house. I don't go to friends houses often, we work in the city & usually meet out.

Yep, I do, as long as I have a little warning that the invitation is coming and its not just a come over right now situation. A simple glass "cracker" jar filled with some white bar cloths for dishes, Mrs. Meyers dish soap and a candle- simple, sweet and useful.

@pinkcupcake: LOL, we bring those things too! Sometimes I'll bring hand soap.
