I cook quite often but don't like it when the next morning, the apartment smells like the previous night's dinner. Before LO arrived, I would burn scented candles but I recently read something about some scented candles being unsafe due to chemicals (I think because of paraffin?). I always burn soy candles anyway, but am wondering if these are okay to use, or if it's better to refrain altogether. Thoughts? Do any of you burn scented candles even with a LO in the house?

Smells give me headaches so I stay away from them.

I do the Sensty wax warmers. We have a dog so I am paranoid about our house smelling like him. When I put a new one in I do usually open the window so it isn't so strong. It is connected to our light switch so when the light is on it turns on.

I never really did before, but now more than ever I don't, because I really don't have the occasion to. I have a few scattered around, but the only one I ever light is in the guest bath when we have company.

I have actually stopped using all candles (we have electric ones that are very realistic looking in holders) as well as air fresheners. I now make my own air freshener. I mix white vinegar with distilled water and about ten to twenty drops of essential oil depending on how much I'm making and where I'm using it. If I'm making it for the bathroom (where we have litter boxes), I use more vinegar than water. The vinegar really cuts through heavy smells but the essential oil makes it so you don't have that vinegary smell. The only word of caution is that you should be careful spraying near wood furniture as the essential oil *could* stain it. I've never had this issue but I usually make sure I have a foot or two of space before the wood.

@betsyboop - I have a 2oz glass perfume atomizer that I use. I don't really measure. Sometimes I use 50/50, sometimes less, sometimes more. The more vinegar I add, the more drops of essential oil I add to balance. I really like it because you really can't go wrong. You don't even have to add the vinegar in at all. It works really well with just water and oil but with three cats in a small flat, I need all deodorizing I can get!

yep, i love it! i switch out diff scents for diff seasons --- going to pull out the fall ones today!

Not anymore, I do Scentsy in just about every room.

I still burn candles with LO's around. I have never heard anything saying not to. I do not use air freshners though they make me gag.

I use them once in a while. I absolutely love cinnamon roll candles and burn them before company comes over. Plus, Hubs has a scented candle that he lights if he's had an extended stay in the bathroom.

I light a candle in our dining room, which is attached to living and kitchen. my LO isn't here yet, but my nanny-mom always lit candles with both her LOs (not within their reach).

Especially seasonal ones like pumpkin and evergreen tree. I have scentsy products, but also like Yankee Candle etc.
