I only borrow, too cheap to buy books.
But it's a pain bc there's like 345 ppl on all the popular book's wait list.

I buy. I love the idea of libraries but I want my own little library and get such satisfaction from seeing all my books lined up and worn. hahaha I'm a weirdo!

I buy... and hate that I do. I work at a university and would use the library more if I could but the lending period is for the entire semester! So I might have to wait five months for a book. I'm too impatient for that so I buy the Kindle version.

I adore the library. Especially now that ours has a system where you can borrow from any library in their network, and they send it by courier to your local library within 24 hours. For some reason I never read books that I buy but I devour my library books? lol. I guess because there's no time limit with my own books.

@Leialou: haha The kindle has really put me in a bad place. I LOVE my kindle but I miss my books!

I buy books that I think I'll re-read in the future, and borrow the rest.

i borrow most, buy some if i really enjoy it and know i'll re-read - i've also started hitting up the thrift store and buying some books there ($1 for a hardback?!)

Hah, funny timing, I just went and checked out 3 books. I work at a large academic library, so I usually just borrow books, but I also hit up half-price books every weekend.

I probably should borrow as much as I read.
I love my Nook, but hate it because now I don't buy paperback books anymore. The only time I do is if it has pictures because my nook is B/W

I buy books (hard copies and digital), and rent books on CD once or twice a month (to listen to in the car).

I do both, I borrow alot more ebooks for my kindle now...I am too lazy to go to the library!

I mostly borrow... I should just buy because I get so many library fines for late returns it ends up being enough to buy hahaha. But we have nowhere to store extra books.
My mom buys me books every Christmas though.

I really try to borrow, because we have a huge stash of books for my work (phd student) and don't need anymore. It gets so hard when you want a newish book though!

Buy. I like having them after I'm done. It's also nice to have to be able to loan out since a couple friends and I read the same books.

Buy. I may be weird but I do not like the smell of old books or the library...makes me nauseous and gives me a headache...plus you don't know where that book has been!

A mix of buying, borrowing from NYPL, and using my university library for online access to books as well. I agree with @.twist.: it's cool to have your own little library, but ebooks, when they're cheap, are really useful too.

I do both. I'm buying more now because our library doesnt have a great selection. The library in our last city was great!

I used to always buy, then I got an ereader. Now I pretty much only borrow as I can't justify spending money one a book that isn't physically there.

For ds (and dd soon), I buy...he likes to read them over and over. he's learning how to read, so it's good for him to just own them. Plus, they get the scholastic books from school, which is fun for him to order.
For myself, I usually borrow them.

I used to only buy but since moving to Hawaii have learned to just borrow because of cost as well as space restrictions.. I don't have room to store all the books I would love to have/read.
However, now that we have DS, I'm slowly starting to buy books to build up his own little library. I'm hoping it will help me cultivate a love for reading in him
@.twist.: I'd love to have my own library too!

We tend to buy. We have so many books in our house!! DH built me an entire wall of shelves in one of our spare rooms and all our books are lined up on it, in catagories - not quite a library yet but the intention was to get there. Only problem is, DH now has a Kindle so we're collecting books much slower than we were!

@grizz: I do the same thing! When I buy, for some reason I rarely touch my own books.
My town library and its network are pretry small so I don't usually have to wait long for a book. Plus, they have Kindle editions, too. When I love a book I buy it for my own collection.

I mostly borrow, unless it is something I will read again and again. I only ever buy books at thrift stores though, I just can't make myself pony up $15+ for a paperback!!

I said a little of both but I mostly buy. Like .twist., I get some satisfaction of having my own little library. I tend to buy my books at Costco where they usually are a good price. I definitely buy all new books that come from Jodi Piccoult, Kristin Hannah and Elin Hilderbrand.
