This is something I've been meaning to investigate. Because I bake so much, I go through a TON of chocolate. I'll really need to weigh the options and cost differences.

Nah, I just love too many different types of chocolate bars to worry about it. I'm also a cheapskate so, I buy the off-brand chocolate for baking.

not always, just sometimes. we really like equal exchange bars. we do always get fair trade sugar--there was a documentary about sugar plantations and it was horrible.

I try really hard to be conscious of fair trade-our coffee and sugar is almost always fair trade, chocolate about half the time (have to work on it!). We also only buy organic bananas. I know there is such a thing as fair trade bananas, but haven't found them around me, organic addresses some of the issues.

Yes I try to, once I read about it on "Rage Against the Minivan" awhile back.

I like TCHO and Scharfenberger. I hope those are fair trade!

@MoonMoon: @edelweiss: I agree on sugar! For this reason among others such as health, I actually mostly avoid processed sugar and buy raw honey locally as well as pure maple syrup and use those for 99% of my sweetening needs.

@Freckles: Ouch! That hurts my heart. I will continue on my quest for a delicious non child labor chocolate!
