I don't. I know she can sing. I don't know what her reasons for not singing it live are but I'm not upset about it.

Nope dont know why its such a big deal. We know she can sing and has an awesome voice... So if conditions are better for lip synching who cares?!

No. She's got a good voice, and if singing live would have hurt her in some way, it's good that she didn't. Passing it off as live though, that's a bit like deception.

There are so many other singers that have pre-recorded performances for special events, so I am truly at a lost why Beyonce is getting so much flack. She sounded great and looked gorgeous.

I'd challenge anyone to knock out a perfect rendition of her version of that song, in the freezing cold, infront of millions of people and the freakin' PRESIDENT. Give her a break.
With that said, I do think it would have been nice if they would have given a no-body the chance. There is so much talent in the public school system. Hold auditions, choose the best and give them a shot. It's just a resume booster for Beyonce but giving some talented high school kid the oppertunity to perform at that capacity would change their life.

@KissMeCait: no no no, I want my stars!!! If these events became opportunity vehicles for unknowns then we would have missed out on the wonderful performance by Kelly Clarckson at this inauguration or Yo-Yo Ma at the first inauguration.

I went back and watched it on youtube, and if she is lipsynching, then she is the world's best lip-syncher!!! The words were 100% synched to her lips- no slips anywhere! I just don't know if I believe that she's lip synching! If she had to make a last-minute decision then there would have been no way for her to rehearse and I'm really skeptical that she could lipsynch totally flawlessly on a last minute decision. I could be wrong though! But I will be surprised if she's lipsynching!

@PrincessBaby: I watched it too and was trying so hard to find her mess up, but she didn't! Maybe she was actually singing with it, but her mic was off? That's my only guess because you can't make your face/mouth seem like you are actually singing hard that way without making noises, sooo my vote is for pre- recorded track with her singing with the mic off.
Either way, I don't really care. And does it make me a bad American if I say that song annoys me? lol! Well, really it's just the people who try and over-sing it that annoy me.

nope! I mean, it's not like she pulled an Ashlee Simpson.
ETA: Not American

@KissMeCait: I agree, I think she should have either sang it live or given someone else the chance.

Am I upset by it? No. Do I think it's lame? Yes.
It made me think of when Whitney Houston sang the National Anthem. I miss her. I've never heard anyone sing it better.
@Mrstiz: I love it, but hate when people get all fancy with it. Keep it simple!

I voted yes but I don't actually care. I just don't think it was the type of event that warranted lip-synching.

@Happygal: I thought Whitney lip-synced the national anthem at the Super Bowl?
pomelo / 5257 posts
@mrbee: You're right, Whitney did lip sync that, although the NFL officials were the ones who chose to do it that way.
I don't really care, because I get that singing live in that kind of cold weather can be unpredictable, the only thing that annoys me in retrospect is how she ripped out her earpiece in the end giving the impression, "I'm so awesome, I don't even NEED this." Well, yeah, because you weren't actually singing...So I understand why she would lip sync, but if it's true then I don't really like all the theatrics because it makes it seem more fake to me, if that makes sense.

I don't care. We all know she's talented and can sing

@MrsSCB: I think sometimes they pull out the ear thing if there is feedback, a malfunction or the sound isn't right and it starts throwing them off. I usually assume when that happens it's a technical error and they'd rather hear the band than what is in their ear.
I vote "I don't care" because I think it's so silly.

@mrbee: No, I actually like her! My husband and I are big Nets fans so we always love trying to spot her and Jay-Z at the games I just think she should be honest. Like I said, I understand why she would pre-record, especially since I heard that she didn't have much rehearsal time, but I wish she would just release a statement or something to put all the rumors to rest. It's a common practice, so why all the secrecy and over-dramatizing?

I think it woul dhave been better if she sang it live, kelly clarkson sang live so I dont know why she didnt. I used to love beyonce when she first started out in destiny's child but she has become everything she used to preach against, so now I'm not a fan
pomelo / 5000 posts
Noooooooooooooooooooo! You all basically just told me the grown-up equivalent to finding out Santa Claus is not real. I guess I really don't like lip syncing.
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
If she was, that's lame. I appreciate authenticity . . . I would not expect perfection with a live performance. It's right up there with airbrushing for me, i.e., I already think you're gorgeous, so the airbrushing is overkill!
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@MrsSCB: I always thought she doesn't release statements to respond to rumors? Will read up on this story!
eggplant / 11824 posts
I voted “yes”, but I don’t really care; I just think its lame (if true). If you’re a singer, your voice is your instrument. All instruments react to weather, temperature, etc. and all the other performers have to compensate on the spot; they don’t get to have a track play for them. If you’re really that talented; belt it out live.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@mrbee: That could be true, but it's not like it's a rumor about her or her husband cheating or something sketchy like that, though. She either sang or she didn't, and if she didn't I just think people would have made much less a big deal out of it if she'd just said from the beginning, "Yes, it was pre-recorded, that is common practice." By being all secretive about it, she's making it seem like it's something to be embarrassed about and I don't really think it is. It's not like she's Ashlee Simpson, that was just embarrassing...
On a different note, the music for the whole band was pre-recorded too, so I just keep thinking how awkward it must have felt to pretend to play the trombone or something!

I would rather have a prerecording that sounds good than a live performance that sounds like she did here on Good Morning America...horrible:
pomelo / 5178 posts
I don't understand how this is newsworthy. GMA dedicated like 15 minutes to this "controversy" this morning!
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@MrsSCB: Just saw that she posted some Instagram pictures of herself recording the national anthem at a recording studio before the Inauguration?
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
Just watched news coverage on it and it's quite clear what's happening: she's singing over a pre-recorded vocal track of herself. Singers often do this for public performances like SNL, etc (hence Ashlee Simpson's slip up). So did she lip sync? no... she was actually singing. But she was being backed up by herself, pre-recorded.
That being said... I don't care that much. It does make me respect her a little less as a vocalist since Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor both did not have a backing vocal track. That just makes her look bad.
The entire band being pre-recorded was weird though.
eggplant / 11824 posts
@MrsSCB: oooh, all the band's music was pre-recorded too??? In that case, I don't care if she didn't sing live. Its dang hard to play an instrument in the cold; so I thought if they had to do it, she should have done it too; but if they didn't, who cares!
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
@jessiejo17: what the heck was that?!??!?! Maybe she had JUST learned the song that day...??
pomelo / 5257 posts
@yoursilverlining: Yup, the band was pre-recorded as well--the band director said they pre-recorded them playing and her singing. He said they definitely used the recording for the band, but he didn't know whether Beyonce sang live or used a recording and she hasn't said either.
pomegranate / 3383 posts
@jessiejo17: oh gosh, is that video for real? It was painful to watch and listen to! I couldn't get through a minute of it!

I am not a fan to begin with, and I think she either should have sang live or let someone else who would do the job. At the very least be honest about it.
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
Are we really that surprised? I mean she did fake a pregnancy and all . . .
NOTE: the above comment was just for giggles, fo serious!
