We did at our old apartment... we just moved though, and don't know that many people at the new place yet!
Do you chat with your neighbors?

Do you chat with your neighbors?

We know almost everyone in our neighborhood, and our LOs have several honorary grandmas. After I gave birth there was someone bringing us food every day for a week!

Yes we have some good neighbors! One keeps an eye on everyone coming and going and always lets us borrow things (we mow his lawn in the summer), one neighbor snowblows our driveway and the other ones are just friendly. There are neighbors across the street with a kiddo our LO's age that I would like to talk to but haven't yet. So yes we chat with them often, more so in the warmer months though.

Yup! Everyone in our plan is so friendly. Everyone is outside in the summer, and will stop and chat even if they don't know you. I actually love it. Someone three blocks over walks their dogs past here every day, and they stop & play with Chloe.
Our next door neighbors are so great, too. The family across the street has a daughter Chloe's age. We are together a lot.

Nope! Unfortunately we seem to be the oddballs on our street...I'm the only working mom, and the other families are not friendly. Oh well, we won't be here forever!

We say hi to the lady across the street but that's the extent of it.

All the time! We love our neighbours and everyone always chats. We have holiday parties together and when LO arrived in August, many of our neighbours brought food and gifts!

Yep! We exchange baking and cooking and cards over Christmas, too. We shovel each other's side walks and make small chat whenever we see each other! I LOVE both our neighbours!

We live in small building so we know everyone well. We see our upstairs neighbors with their kids and dogs. Downstairs, he comes and goes. Basement, we see them quite a bit and always talk.

I chat with my next door neighbor (apartment building) and occasionally my landlords, who live upstairs. The rest of my neighbors are German speaking, so there is a language barrier.

We do, everyone is very chatty here. My husband loves it - he can chat with anyone he comes across.

Yeah, the few old ladies on either side of me. The others, I just wave as I run or drive by.LOL

Yup. We have an awesome next door and across the street neighbor that we chat with all the time. Our next door neighbor even mows our lawn when we go on vacation! (We never asked... He just does it when he mows his own! :-))

We chat with several of them regularly. We throw an annual party for all the neighbors and about half of them come each year, which we think is a pretty good turnout.

We chat with our neighbors when we take the pup & baby for walks. A bunch stopped by our house to bring their kids/grandkids trick-or-treating too and we caught up.
pomegranate / 3113 posts
Yep, when we moved in we made it a point to meet all our immediate neighbors. I'm hoping to branch out and meet some more people down the street, as well. We don't have to be BFFs but I think it's a really good idea to know who your neighbors are!
pear / 1787 posts
No, but we're about to move to a house and I'm hoping there will be good neighbors there that we can get to know.

I love talking with neighbors outside if we bump into someone but I HATE when they just stop by without notice and most of the time my doorbell rings I'm in my PJs or without a bra or covered in dirt with rubber gloves on and I get so frustrated that I just ignore it and pretend I'm not home. My husband HATES that I do it but I'm totally anti-social once the yoga pants come on.
We live on an estate though and the people in the cottages around us all work here (housekeeper, groundskeeper, gameskeeper, and the now-retired nanny for the big house) and have been here together for many years... and then there's us. The only Americans in this tiny English estate. They probably think all Americans are super private because of me, LOL.

We chat in the street, but most of them are retired so we don't hang out.

@mrbee: Yep, we love our neighbors. We have neighbors over to our house, block parties, book club meet-ups, etc. Very fun neighborhood!

Always. When DH and I were dating I made friends in his apartment building and block. Whenever we walked around the neighborhood people always said Jo to me and we would start chatting and he would ask how do you know that person. Lol
We know most of our neighbors in our building, it's awesome because we all help each other out
pomegranate / 3521 posts
A bit. DH talks knows almost everyone and people come to say hi to him when we are working around outside.
bananas / 9118 posts
Yes, we are surrounded by retirees, so it's usually pretty brief, thankfully. I've avoided one since this summer, she asked me if I was pregnant the day we found out about #2 (8 DPO) I finally told her yesterday. She then asked why I lied , and I said we hadn't found out yet. She never had kids, so she totally doesn't get it. There is one neighbor I LOVE taking to, a retired pediatrician from South Africa, he has the coolest stories!
pomegranate / 3580 posts
Not really. I think if we owned the house I'd put in more effort. We do talk to the old couple across the street and they bring us cucumbers from their garden in the summer. Everyone else we say "hi" to but I couldn't tell you their names.
Oh! And DH is pretty sure one of our neighbors spread a poopy diaper on his windshield last winter (i.e. Frozen poop he had to scrape off). His pickup is LOUD in the morning when it's warming up and he leaves at 5:45am so he thinks that is why. Either way, it's very strange behavior since we live in a pretty nice area with mostly middle-aged families.

We don't hang out or anything but I chat with a lot of them if I see them outside.
pomegranate / 3580 posts
@mrbee: haha, right?! I'm not convinced it was our neighbors (maybe a random drive-by from some teenagers?) but DH swears it is.
papaya / 10343 posts
I try not to…… lol. They are nice enough I guess but we just don't have anything in common with them. They're all double(+) our age and one of them likes to give too much "helpful advice" about our yard maintenance and another likes to corner me and tell me way-too-personal info about her divorce.
eggplant / 11408 posts
Yep! We're in a small building, and everyone is very friendly with each other. Our pups are also friends
@however briefly: you live on an estate? So cool!

@LovelyPlum: It really is super cool! We've been here three years now and we're sad to have to be moving away in a couple of months but we're also a bit excited to be moving back to the US for the first time in ten years.

Only when we happen to pass by and they're outside. Everyone normally keeps to themselves though, which I appreciate.
