DD2 is 3 months and rolling so it's time to get rid of the swaddle. She doesn't like to be rocked, doesn't take a paci and isn't sucking on her fingers. So do I just have to let her cry if she wakes up while we wean?? DD2 didn't roll until 4 months something and she was totally ready to be swaddle weaned and it was no biggie. But DD2 still seems to really need it to sleep since she is only 3 months. I am tired just thinking about weaning and night wake ups!

Have you tried doing one arm out? or using a sleep sack that you can still velcro tightly around her waist? Supposedly those things help! We did end up doing a bit of CIO when we quit the swaddle, but it was only about two days, and on the upside, at the end of it we could put him in the crib at night awake.

Is she rolling from back to tummy? That's really early! I would definitely start with arms out, but she'll still startle...

@hilsy85: yes I have tried one arm out and around her belly but she doesn't sleep until I do the full swaddle. Then I can just pop her in the crib awake and she sleeps. Gah!
@Mrs Green Grass: yes, she can do back to tummy and tummy to back already!

LO can roll back to belly, but I've found that when swaddled she'll roll constantly and end up on her belly. When I started leaving her arms out she slept longer and didn't roll at night. I think she was rolling so much because she was fighting the swaddle.
Our doula recommends unswaddling after babe is deep asleep so that they fall asleep with the advantage of the swaddle but don't have it at night. But that means you have to stand there waiting for sleep and then pray undoing the swaddle doesn't wake her

@oliviaoblivia: we use the Velcro swaddles so it would be really noisy and would definitely wake her up! We tried one arm out again last night and it wasn't bad! Hope we can get rid of this swaddle soon!!

We went cold turkey and just did extra soothing around that age. I won't night wean until after 6 months.

We did one arm out then moved to just swaddled legs after a period of time. Worked like a charm.

For DD Wwe got rid of the swaddle while doing CIO for sleep training.. This is after doing one arm out...

If you're willing to make another purchase, I'd try the Magic Sleepsuit! I felt like my LO still had his Moro reflex when we swaddle-weaned so I was really scared to transition and we bought the sleepsuit. It was awesome! No extra wake ups and we transitioned to a sleepsack without issue 5-6 weeks later. It was definitely worth the $30 I spent!

We're swaddle weaning E, too. He keeps getting out of the Halo swaddle and I didn't want to worry about overheating this summer, so we just decided to go for it. I just wrap the velcro part around his middle. I tried one arm out, but it didn't seem to make a difference. He sleeps okay, but definitely not as good as before (he was STTN swaddled, wakes up at 3 and 6 or 7 with arms out). It's gotten better each night, I think. Have you noticed that? I keep thinking it'll just take a little while and then he'll sleep well again. I hope, anyway!

@allison: We've done 4 nights of one arm out now and her sleep has stayed about the same from being fully swaddled. It becomes a problem when the second arm sneaks out of the Halo swaddle, though, so maybe we'll just do one arm out for a while! If she rolls onto her belly, at least she has that one arm. But she hasn't rolled since we took the arm out. I think she was rolling more before from fighting the swaddle!

@Andrea: I hope I'm not jinxing myself, but my LO has STTN 10-8 two out of the last three nights! He woke up night before last once. So I definitely think they just have to get used to it. I think that makes sense that she was rolling because she was fighting the swaddle, especially since she stopped with the one arm out. E likes to sleep with his arms above his head, so I think that's why he started fighting the swaddle. Still trying to decide if/when I'll remove the swaddle sack completely...

DD isn't rolling yet but I was thinking about trying one arm out. She's still startling herself though so I don't know that it would work.
