The first night we brought E home (the 3rd night of his life) I ended up dozing off and on in a recliner with him in my arms because he would absolutely not sleep unless he was being held. By the fifth night I was so desperate for sleep I brought him into bed with us--which I always swore I would never do, and he's slept with us at least part of almost every night since.

His sleep is slowly getting better, especially since he decided swaddling is okay sometimes, as opposed to not tolerating it-not in a "fight it but calm down in a few minutes" way, but in a "fight harder until he'd broken it or just scream louder" way...no good in an apartment. I can swaddle him and nurse him until he's almost asleep and then move him to the PnP newborn napper next to our bed, which is MAJOR progress from the time when he would instantly wake up as soon as he realized I wasn't holding him--no matter how zonked out he'd bee. When he wakes up to nurse I'll bring him into bed with us.

I love it. It's wonderful. We've practiced lying down side-by-side nursing since he was about two weeks old. At almost 7 weeks he can find my nipple and latch on with no help from me, so I barely wake up to nurse. I love feeling his warm little body curled into mine.

Do you co-sleep?
