I'm a cook. One day, I'd love to be a chef! That day is far, far away though.
Do you consider yourself a cook or a chef?

A cook. A chef goes to cooking school in my book.
I will never be able to be a chef. I do not have the ability to combine ingredients to set trends. I can copy, though.

Um, neither? Accident-prone would be more like it when it comes to me being in the kitchen.

@looch: I've had some incredible meals made by someone without training!! He was Italian though, so there's that.

@mrbee: Ah, a world where the chefs are italian, the lovers are French, the Germans are engineers, etc.

Neither I enjoy NOT being in the kitchen unless I'm eating things.

I think that unless you're classically trained and/or work in a professional kitchen, you're not a chef.

Cook. A chef is a professional cook, IMO. Cooks can be as good as chefs, though.

You guys crack me up! I'm gonna learn to cook and then I will buy myself a chef's hat!!

A home cook! I love it, though, and if I ever had the chance, I would definitely go to culinary school-even if just for fun!

Home cook for sure. I am nowhere close to the pro-status of a chef

Neither! I'm a baker, but only on holidays and/or when I have a craving for cookie or cake batter.

I'm not even a cook. I can prepare edible food most of the time.
I think of "chef" as a profession too, so will never consider myself a chef.

Neither. I consider myself a person who can cook if I have to. lol

@Andrea: Just kidding about the hat! I do plan to get much better at cooking though... it's depressing working hard on a meal, only to find that it tastes just "ok."
I have a few friends who have undergone formal training and it sounds intense. I am looking into taking some courses to get the basics down, and then obsessively work through some cookbooks.

Add me to the list of bakers! I'd love to be worthy of the chef title though! I think that's a great goal!

In this apartment, I am the dishwasher, junior waiter, bookings clerk, front of house greeter, juice sommelier, and occasional sous chef (chopping only). DW deals with the cordon bleu, I deal with the cheese on toast.

I'm just someone who feeds my family (home cook?) and enjoys it. A cook or a chef is someone who does it professionally.

Chef. I only use recipes to spark my culinary imagination. I really enjoy cooking. And my food looks and tastes damn good in my humble opinion (and from what I've been told!) I'm a baker too.

I'm more of an "assembler"! I am decent at putting things together, but a cook I am not

None of the above, I manage not to poison us and am amazed that I have retained all 10 digits.

A chef is technically someone with culinary training. I would love to have that knowledge but I'm definitely a cook. And a pretty good one, if I must toot my own horn.

I'm a cook who follows other people's recipes and then tweaks them for our individual tastes...I'm not creative enough to REALLY make my own food from no recipe base.
