Nope because we don't get money back anyway. Even if we did, we wouldn't rely on it.

We don't count on it! We've got thousands back for the past 3 years though, so if we don't this year I will be sad! But we definitely don't count/rely on it!

Nope! I always owe since I'm an independent contractor! It's always my hope that I've put enough aside to not have to pay!

@littlek: I never know if I'm withholding too little or too much! I answer the questions on the W-4 correctly. But I don't know if I'm playing the "game" correctly.

I always owe even when it seems we shouldn't, so I don't count on anything.

That being said this year I am having a hard time not banking on us getting a solid return!

We don't count on it. It changes every year. We do have plans for a refund if we get it this year (new windows, yay).

DH is self employed so usually, we owe taxes. I just count on owing. We did get a refund one year. That was exciting.

@looch: @littlek: I agree! Now that we no longer have DH's education credits we usually end up owing or coming out even. Anything we get usually goes back into savings/mortgage anyway. It's not exactly "free/found" money...it's the money you lent the government!!

Sort of? We use it to pad LO's college fund, so I'm always looking forward to seeing how much of a bonus she'll get.

No. We try to get back as little as possible.

We always have to pay now that I'm in grad school since taxes are taken out of only a portion of my stipend automatically (my stipend is usually broken into biweekly payments for TAing, when I am TAing, which I was last spring but not last fall--that gets automatically taxed. But I also also a lump sum at the beginning of the semester that isn't). It makes our taxes SUPER complicated!

We don't rely on it, but usually expect to get a good deal back based on DH's job and tax deductions every year. Our return this year will go onto our mortgage (laaaaame!).

I definitely hope for it. We've gotten a good amount back for the last two years, because I was working full time and in graduate school, and DH was in school full time. This summer, he graduated and started working....so we might not get such a pretty refund this year. (Although I hope we get a little something...our leaky roof fund could use it!)

We usually have plans for it, but nothing that couldn't be adjusted if it were to be less than usual. I actually like having more money withheld, just so we can have that lump sum at one time when we file. I'm sure I'll change it with the baby coming, but I still withhold at a single rate, just to make sure we don't have to pay come tax time. It usually makes for a nice return in the spring!

No, but it is nice to get a refund! Sometimes we plan in advance or have ideas of what we could spend with a refund...but we don't rely on it as income or anything.

FIL has to because he's on disability and he gets back a lot each year...he uses it to pay off his credit card.

We always get a refund. Yeah, I know I'm giving the government an interest free loan when I choose to get a refund. I'm not the best saver so it's something I don't have to think about. So yeah, I have plans for it. Like paying off debt, savings and other things. I'm glad I can use it to pay off debt and use it for savings. Years ago, it wouldn't.
