The past few days I have tried to get in the habit of changing my little boy before a nursing session-- he always seems to comfy and relaxed afterwards and a cold diaper change makes him so unhappy. Granted, he is dirtying a new diaper in a matter of minutes (I am breastfeeding him and he has about 10 dirty diapers a day!) but I have found this to work well for us right now.

Usually in between switching sides. It helps wake him up so he nurses better on the 2nd side.

@hilsy85: Agreed- if I want to make sure he keeps nursing, I'll do the diaper change in the middle to wake him up a bit. Once LO got better at nursing, or if I thought he didnt' really need the nursing session, we did it at the end because he always peed and/or pooped while nursing, and because when he got hungry it was easier to pop a boob in his mouth than to change an angry baby and then try to settle him to nurse.

I always did it before the bottle. I love seeing that milk drunk face once they finish eating, and a wet diaper always seems to interrupt that happy, sleepy feeling.

I always did it before. She would almost always fall asleep while nursing when she was a NB, so I never wanted to risk waking her up.

Usually before... It helps wake him up, and he seems to have a hard time relaxing enough to nurse when he's wet.
When DH gives him his bottle at our night feeding, he will wait until halfway through, because LO inevitably will poop right in the middle of the feeding!

Before. Afterward he's so sleepy and easier to put down and if I change his diaper he's completely woken up and that's ruined.

Before. this way once she is full she can go right to sleep.
When she was a newborn I would change her after because she would always poop while eating

@Meggo5: I was so going to post this question today! Right now, I have to breast feed, then give her a bottle of pumped milk, then breast feed again - she has a poor latch so doing both. So I change her before the bottle to wake her up, but then feel like she'll probably dirty it before we finish the routine.

So good to hear that it can be done all different ways. The problem we have is that he continues to poop throughout the feeding so we have another dirty diaper soon after the change.

I have always changed them every time they are wet/dirty. NO schedule, I just change immediately.

I change before I feed him. I did it the same way with his older brother and I found it to be the best time to change it. Because if I change him after I risk getting sprayed with all the milk he just drank. Also, less chances of spitting up from lifting his legs up on the air. Oh, and if he falls asleep while nursing (especially during his bed time session) I don't have to worry about fully waking him up. It'll only upset him.
Oh, and btw, the pooping will slow down as your LO gets older too. More so when they starts solids. I sure don't miss newborn poop!
