If you don't like their menu, do you send her with food from home?
There is a daycare i'm considering, but i don't like the menu at all. Cheez Whiz bread rolls? Since i make almost everything from scratch, it's really difficult for me to think about my 1 year old eating a ton of processed food.
Should i just bypass the daycare, send her with food, or just lighten up?

We send lunch and they do snacks after age 1 so it has been ok. A liitle heavy on the carbs, lots of crackers, muffins etc but also fruit and dairy.
In your situation you may want to ask if other famillies also send food or if LO would be the only one.. there is a kid in LOs class who cant have dairy and he always fusses when everyone else has cheesesticks or yogurt and he has whatvever his family sent instead. He is only like 16 moonths.
It wouldnt be a dealbraker rght off btut it wouldnt definitely be a factor. I hope you find a better fit!

I feel like I'm pretty in the middle about food (some goldfish crackers, juice, etc aren't going to kill anyone) but cheez whiz rolls might be where I draw the line lol
I'm also a suuuuuper picky eater ecause of my upbringing (never had to eat veggies) and will try my best to help DD have a healthy and wide variety of food choices she enjoys. I'd be worried about her eating carbs/fats all day and refusing veggies and good stuff at migt at home.
I'd pack some healthy snacks or go somewhere else

I don't love the food they give my daughter, but its not as bad as that. Each lunch is a homecooked meal but there is often a pizza or chicken nugget thrown in there. They always serve with a side of fruit and a side of veggies (both out of the can, never fresh). Breakfast is a lot of carbs.
I often send something extra for breakfast (protein) and often send some fresh fruit and/or cheese for snacks.

I already worry about this and mine isn't even born yet! I think it will be tough to send food with her because at some point, she IS going to want what everyone else is eating and may refuse her own home packed lunches. A lot of eating has to do with peer pressure, and nobody really enjoys being singled out when all they want to do is eat/do what everyone else is eating.
Food could easily be a dealbreaker for me.

We send all our own food b/c ours doesn't provide. I would go w/ a daycare where you pack your own food since I don't like the idea of not knowing what my son's eating.

What is a cheez whiz roll?? I'm a picky eater and IMO, cheez whiz isn't real food, lol

I would make sure that you are allowed to bring in your own food before making any decisions. The daycare that my LO will be starting at in March does not allow outside food in order to control allergens in the class. However, they do have an on site cook that will cater to any food restrictions your child might have. Check with your potential daycare about their policy.

This worries me... cheez wiz roll?! My mom has been caring for DD while we are at work but I am planning on enrolling her in daycare around 2 so she can interact with others kids and also so my mom can have a break. My mom has been a godsend and is so good with DD that I'm afraid she's spoiled me in terms of childcare. =P

Our daughter goes to preschool and they have snack there. Parents are supposed to bring healthy snack, but often I am surprised by what they eat. There are lots of crackers and juice (both things we don't provide at home).
I guess I let crackers and juice slide, but surely I'd draw the line at cheez whiz. At least they were honest with you!

@Mrs. Jacks: I agree the different standards. My good friend feeds her three year old sugar cereal and muffins for breakfast. I know I'm not the healthiest but I try to stay away from those things especially for LO.

One of the reasons we chose our current daycare was because they did not provide lunch. All the places we saw that did had kind of gross menu options. Not cheez whiz roll level gross, but also not what I would like to have him eat every day.
He is given snacks, none of which are super-nutritious - think pretzels, cheese-it's, etc., but I can deal with that. We tend to overpack his lunch anyway, so they will often take the extra stuff we send and give to him for a snack.

I'm super picky about what she eats and will be sending lunch with her to daycare, I wouldn't be cool with cheez-whiz.
Sidenote: as a child to make fancy Kraft M&C, my dad would boil bowtie pasta and just melt cheeze-whiz on it. He called it Pasta di Frommagio... it was delicious!
