While DH was home for almost 2 weeks over Christmas break, we had a few movie nights where DD got to pick what movie she wanted to watch. It was fun! She was super excited because we haven't watched movies much before. We watched Frozen (skipped the scary parts) and she picked Cinderella twice, lol.

Yep, we do movie night 1-2x a week. Usually weekends when we are little more relaxed with screen time. We watch Inside Out pretty much every time, with a bit of Toy Story mixed in
I just ordered her Alvin and the Chipmunks Shipwrecked because we went and saw the other one in the theater and she loved it.

No. I can't figure out the logistics of movie night. When do you have them? What time do they start? Do you eat before or after? Do you have snacks during?
We eat dinner at 6 and bedtime is at 7:30. We have no time for movies right now...

Yes, every Friday!! It's pizza and movie night in our house - we make homemade pizza (LO loves to help make the pizza too), and we bring down a bunch of quilts and lay them out on the living room rug and watch the movie picnic-style on the floor.

We do! Every Saturday. We call it an indoor picnic and have dinner on the ground during the movie. My kids love it, but never ever agree on the movie hahahaha

@yoursilverlining: That's so fun! I think we need to start making homemade pizza. DD would LOVE that. Right now, we just do frozen. We have a pizza stone too. I need to get on that.

@mediagirl: We usually have dinner at 6, movie starts at 630ish, bed right after it ends. Usually around 8pm. So it works for us.

Yes, nearly every Saturday with family friends.
@mediagirl: LO's bedtime is later, but we usually do dinner and then just half of a movie. The following week we do the second half.

Yes, 1-2 times a month. Sometimes we watch a movie or a few episodes of Peppa or Daniel Tiger. We bathe them early, eat dinner then watch a movie. Bedtime is usually 7-7:30 but they go to bed later on those Fri or Sat nights.

@mediagirl: that's our schedule too, and it works fine. We make the pizza to be ready at 6. We watch the movie and eat picnic style. We usually watch a Disney classic that comes in at about 1 hr 20 mins. -
I've tried this twice with DD (3) and was super excited about it, we got in PJ's, made popcorn, got some blankets on the floor....and then when it came time to choose the movie she threw a fit about wanting to watch the SAME episode of Caillou that she always watches. I was so bummed! Hoping to try it again and actually watch a movie!

@HappyBaker: Could you not give her the option of picking the movie? Sometimes we give LO the option, but usually we pick out a movie ahead of time and just put it on. I’ve also been known to tell LO that the “TV will only give us this movie, it’s what the TV picked” and shrug my shoulders

@yoursilverlining: Haha I LOVE that response! I actually had a movie picked out but we had to go through Netflix to get to it so she saw Caillou's little face before I got there. Next time I definitely will pick a DVD so we can avoid him at all costs

I put out all the DVDs we had last time and she picked Wall-E, but then changed her mind to Cinderella (2nd time watching it) and said "watch dis one next time" Lol.

@woodentulip: What about Cinderella? I don't think it is very scary - the scariest part is the cat with the mice but we just laughed and said, "Silly cat!" and that seemed to work.

We did our first family movie night over Christmas break. LO got Cars for Christmas. I got him a little Lightning McQueen hot wheels car and some snacks. He's only 20 months so he didn't watch the whole movie, but it was so much fun to see him get excited about the racing scenes!
I love the idea of a regular family movie night. We used to do this growing up and had a picnic on the floor.

When DD is old enough, I'd like to start doing a regular movie night. Maybe try to theme dinner after the movie.
