If so where do you donate it to? I tried donating to a Goodwill store near me, but they only would take the clothes and no baby gear or even the unopened boxes of diapers

Women's shelters or to the local group for single mothers. Or, I just give it away free on a classifieds site.

Resale places in some states won't take gear because of issues re: lead paint and recalls. I'd look for a local nonprofit serving children, single/teen moms or families, or list them in the "free" space on craigslist.

You could put it on Craigslist, there is a huge section called "Wanted" and people who need things but can't afford it post there. Or make a post in Kids/Baby and list it all as free/cheap

Craigslist and freecycle are both organized locally, so you could just arrange a meetup to hand the stuff over.
