When I first graduated from college I would donate $50 or so. I haven't donated in years. Now that I have a wee one I was considering donating again. I really liked my college!
Anyone make donations to their undergrad institution?

Nope! I plan to later when we can afford it and aren't still paying off student loans.

I don't. I plan to, once I'm finished paying off my loan, and have a higher paying position in my career. I do donate a bit to my sorority around the time of alum brunch.

They call every year and we usually donate like $50 bucks each. So yes, but no risk of having a wing named after us or anything

Nope. They got (and are still getting, thanks to student loans...) enough of my money...

I'd like to someday but I haven't yet! Need to make more money and have less debt first. I enjoyed my experience (at a very small school that I transferred to after some time off) and I'd love to donate specifically to the communication department.

Nope - I loved my university but there are far more important charities that are much more deserving of my money than a wealthy university.

Yes! I don't give much -- usually like $50 -- but I always give something.

I did until I needed the university for something important and nobody came through for me. It was incredibly disappointing, frustrating and every year I torture the poor student who calls me asking for donations with my story, with the request that they escalate the story to their supervisors.

I LOVED undergrad so I make sure to donate every year. Law school, not so much. I got really irritated with how aggressive the callers from my law school were when trying to solicit money, so I told them to remove my phone number and not contact me again. Maybe someday I'll donate to them, but right now I'm still a little too annoyed.

We both loved our school, and it's where we met, so we would if we could, but they closed about 2 years ago, so we can't.

I have donated to my university but am more faithful donating to my high school. I work in nonprofit education so I know how important it is to maintain that relationship and give back.

Yup, I do. I donate to the Science department at my campus.

Yes, I have always consistently given a little to my major's resume book. I can single handedly point to my major's awesome studebt professional organization and the resume book they put out every year as to why I have a job.

Yes, maybe it will help our kids get in. We met at uni.

i didn't for a while, but now i do. there's no way that the amount of my donations will help our LO get into college, but i really did enjoy my college experience and was helped by others' donations and financial aid.

Heck no! None of the money ever comes to my department, so NO! And I told them that each time they call to ask for donations.

I don't feel like I'm in a place to make donations, I need to pass out a donation basket for myself!

No, because I do not agree with how they spend the funds. I think most of it should go to the students in need.

Hell no. I hated my university. They were money-grubbing buttmunches.
grapefruit / 4823 posts
nope. I don't think I ever even opened an envelope from them after I graduated. so who knows if they asked....haha
DH gets calls ALL.THE.TIME to make donations! he tells them no, and to stop calling, but they don't listen!

Nope, I'm still playing plenty in school loans! Maybe when I've got those done will start.

@sarbear: ha! They have students from within the major call. The one time I asked.
Now be honest. Your a student. Do you see any of the money come to our department? Pause. Laughs. Right, so that's why I'm not donating. Please take me off the list.
No calls after that!

I donated for about 5 years, but then they started calling twice a year. They also wanted you to double your gift every time. They were getting way too greedy and I've been annoyed. As it is, they still call me DAILY, weekends and everything. I just don't pick up.

@zippylef: ::chuckle:: Your comment next to your avatar makes for a hilarious combo!
@mrs. 64: That's crazy! That's straight up harrassment. They should be doing better things with their time.

They got plenty from my tuition. I love my school but I am done paying their high "fees" ontop of tuition. All power to those who do donate though!

No. I wasn't in a financial position to do it before, and now that I am, I don't want to. I despise being solicited like that, and it gets to be more like harassment every year.

I donated to my college alma mater with a payment plan where you would get your name on a brick at the end of paying $100 over a few years. I don't donate to my graduate school alma mater.
I donate to my high school through their French class France trip scholarship. For me, this was such a great trip when I went that I'm more than happy to help out those who need assistance to go. I get letters and postcards from the girls who received the assistance too. With this, I know that the money is going to the girls and not to administrative purposes.
