I do not, but DH would. Sometimes if it's even 1-2 days before I am iffy about it.

Never. I'm the same way! I am really weird about expiration dates and always checking them when I shop.

some things, i will - but not milk or sour cream, or anything like that that can sour

If it passes the sniff test I'll try it. I think companies are super cautious with their expiration dates.

I eat expired food all the time, unless there is something obviously wrong with it (like the milk has gone sour). Those sorts of things don't phase me at all.

It depends. If it isn't slimy or doesn't smell bad then I will.

It depends what it is. Usually unless it looks or smells off I'd eat it a few days after. Though since being preg I try not to take any risks unless it's only a day over.

Oh, yes. Milk is typically good for a week past its expiration date. Food smells and tastes bad when it goes bad. I think expiration dates are overly conservative in this country. A couple of times I've eaten yogurt that had a bit of a 'sparkling' taste to it--meaning it fermented. But it's not like one bite made me sick.
If the sour cream is like, a week old...I make muffins with it

Usually we do. I agree with the PPs, if it smells bad I won't eat it but something like milk is good for a week after the expiration date... but I do smell it first!! And if the food in non-perishable, I'm definitely less worried about the expiration date.

No, I throw things out as soon as the date is passed, DH gets so mad becuas he says it is "wasteful." However I'm not willing to potentially get sick over $2-3 package of whatever!

I do, but I always smell it first, and take a sample bite before just throwing it down.

hm. no. I don't but my husband would!
I can't sniff things either because I find it too gross so I usually make other people sniff it.
Sometimes if it's a few days before expiry and it's still "good" but I don't want it, I'll give it to the dog.

Yes. It depends on the item though. I have a very good sense of smell, so I sniff everything before I eat it anyway. If it's dairy based, I'm more cautious.

I usually do, as long as it doesn't smell or taste bad. DH is SO against it! He freaks out about a lot of things like that because, in his words, he hates puking so much that he'd rather throw away something that's good if it means there's no chance he'll get sick.
He also has heard horror stories about botulism, so he brings that up any time he thinks something in the fridge is iffy.
