I was looking through the clearance racks today at the mall and was tempted to buy LO winter items for next year. He's been right on track with size/age so far. Do you ever buy ahead?

Sometimes. More so when he was a baby but I will consider it if/when I find good deals
pomelo / 5820 posts
Yep! When I find good deals. He has been right on track with sizing, so everything has worked out so far.

I've bought ahead but I try to only go ahead by one season. I've failed at that recently.

I do if it's a really good deal. My LO seems to fit right on time with sizing. We bought her an adorable 2T peacoat for next year. It's huge on her now, so i'm hoping it fits next winter!

I bought a winter jacket for next season. Worst case she wears it now.

Yep! I've found good deals on coats and jackets by buying one year ahead

I buy basics/ things she can wear in most seasons (leggings, dresses, tees, etc) ahead if it's a good deal, particularly at the consignment shop. This fall I did but her a lot of used summer clothes from the HB classifieds that will fit her this year.
I wanted to buy her woolens and outerwear for next winter with all the sales going on, but my husband talked me out of it because she is pretty small, and could drop percentiles when she starts walking, which means we'd be unsure if we should buy 18m or 24m....and we are outside in very cold weather a lot, so it needs to fit!

Nope cause she has slowed down. I went to a consignment sale tonight and I went ahead and bought 12 for summer. Hopefully she will be in them by then.

Nope, I attempted that last year and failed! I only buy basic stuff like tshirts/singlets that don't need to fit certain seasons.

All the time! I try to buy for next year during the end of season sales this year. It's such a good way to save. I also buy during the season but only when my oldest needs something that I didn't get the season before. Lucky for me I have two boys but only have to buy once! My oldest is usually pretty on target with size. My second is a bit taller and bigger but at least he has his big brother's clothes to wear still.

Yes! Not too far in advance but like in the next size. Oh, and when I was pregnant I bought up to 12 month sizes, so I guess that counts as buying in advance.

Not anymore! I like shopping for stuff they can wear right away.
pineapple / 12053 posts
yes, but i've slowed down and only buy early on good deals. she's in the high high percentiles, so i have no clue how long stuff will last these days!

I do if the deal is just too good to pass up but I also like to buy things to wear immediately also. So her closet is a good mix of both. I have her closet organized by size and I've purchased clothing according to the season I expect her to be in by then. She's been very consistent in sizing so far. I make sure everything I buy gets worn.

I do! I bought all her clothes for this summer last August when she was born. Carters' had a massive sale. I was scared they wouldn't be the right size but looks like they will. I also bought lots of 12-18 and 18-24 clothes at a big baby gap sale but stuck to leggings and dresses and tops that weren't season specific.

Sometimes, but it also make sure things I buy for her to wear right now are big enough to last awhile, and can be used for multiple outfits/seasons. It's tricky to know what to buy!

Yes, for baby, but not my toddler. I found a bunch of adorable fall/winter dresses for DD on sale, so I bought them in 12-18 month sizes. She's only 11 weeks right now

I do - I got her winter jacket for next year since the North Face was having a sale. I also got purple jeans for $2 today that I just couldn't pass up! They should be good for next Fall.

yes, all the time from the clearance racks or from the outlets. she runs pretty true to size so far.

I have been, but I need to stop. I bought several 12 months pajamas in advance, put them away, and then forgot about them. Now DS is too big for them
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
All the time when I see items for $3 or less. But like to buy big so there's less risk of outgrowing.
watermelon / 14206 posts
Not DS anymore. His growth is too unpredictable, and he usually wants to wear new stuff right away.
For LO, I'm buying up to 12 months right now. I have to see how he's growing to fit the seasons before I do more than that.
pineapple / 12793 posts
I only pick up basics ahead. She's never been true to size at any store so it's really hard to predict.
Last year she was in her summer wardrobe by March and outgrew it by May.
pomegranate / 3388 posts
Yes! Carters was just having a sale on fleece PJs. -- $5 per pair! I got some in 2T, which are just barely starting to fit DD, and some in 3T. Our house is cold, so we'll always need warm PJs.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Yup! When E was a couple months old, I stocked up on clothes up to 12m. Now that she's 10m, I'm going consignment shopping for 18m clothes. I like to have them on hand.
bananas / 9973 posts
All the time! But I try to buy season-less items on sale as much as possible.
honeydew / 7589 posts
Vi is already wearing 18/24M and some 2T (she's 11 months), so I'm kind of afraid to buy ahead. I don't know when or if her growth will start slowing down!
bananas / 9227 posts
I used to only shop ahead, but now that she's a toddler, clothes are lasting longer so I've been buying her current size. It was hard to break the habit - I actually started buying ahead even now, she would always fit a size up in pants, for example. But she's more true to size now and the bigger pants don't fit as well (she pulls at them if they're too long).
pineapple / 12526 posts
I try not to because she grows in leaps and it never ends up being the right size for the season.
Now that she's in 2T, I have bought some 3T stuff for next winter though. Im hoping she'll be good with that and her 2T stuff from this year.

When he was an infant, I used to buy ahead for seasons, he was ahead in sizing, but I went with his growth and we got good use out of everything I bought.
I haven't bought ahead in a while though cuz he's been growing so much since 10+ months.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
Not any more. It's especially important when they are toilet trained to have pants that fit properly so they can pull them up or down themselves, so I have to buy on time.

Occasionally. But my guy is on the smaller side so it can be tough to gauge.
